To be perfectly honest, the only way to get Alex and Eddie off of the couch and out of the fridge is to hit them where it hurts. Their pocket. I've seen people post threads asking everyone to make as many Van Halen requests to their radio stations but honestly that's the worst way to get them back... Their song gets airplay, they get royalties... That's a lot of money considering how much they're played by a LOT of radio stations. If you actually convinced your local stations not to play VH, they're paychecks are going to get thinner. And I'm sure sitting around the house watching "One Day at a time" reruns and eating bonbons isn't exactly cheap when you aren't working and living in expensive places... who knows.

Interesting idea, but honestly, radio playlists are largely out of the hands of the DJs and the listeners. The programming director probably has a big say in it, as does record labels that want certain things pushed. It wouldn't be beyond WB to have found a way to get a piece of the residuals back when VH first signed, and it would be in their best interest to ensure classic rock stations kept playing them.

Perhaps this is a major contributing factor to why you hear a lot of VH material from the Dave period and not the Sammy period. Perhaps Sam and Ed Leffler got the band a better deal with residuals - such that it doesn't pay for WB to push those songs.

Isn't a shame that radio stations are completely programmed and controlled by record companies to play what they want you to hear? Why not continually focus on new music and play that? It will get a lot more bands out to the public and probably will make some money (at least as much as royalties I would think).

Why must we continually hear "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Walk This Way"? They were fine the first year they were around.

Wouldn't it be great to have a whole bunch of music to choose from, and people will take notice of the really good ones. It's as if the record companies are going to throw one, two, maybe three bands/artists per year to the buying public and hope they go for one. Then the public pounds gobs of money into one (ala Britney) and the rest are left in the dirt. I'm just talking simple figures here.

    It's like any big business.
And, we, the buying public are left in search of the good music.

So yeah, we aren't really in charge. Sorry.
