I got to thinking that VH should do a CD with Mike on lead vocals... am I nuts? I would even love to see a Mikey solo project.

I would love to see Mike do a solo project. His backing vocals, aside from VHIII, are the backbone of the Van Halen vocal sound. I think he'd make an excellent lead singer. I remember back around 91 or 92 hearing that he was thinking about doing his own record. What ever happened with that?

If Mike becomes the lead singer,
that only leaves Al & Lord Ted
to sing back up! NO THANKS!

Like we all say,
Mike is VH's
back up vocalist.

Take that away,
and you take away a chunk
of that VH signature sound!

But on the other hand
I think Mike could
be a lead singer no problems!
Maybe on a SOLO project.

Thats just my op anyway!

Mike has to be considered because a forth singer is not going to work.Dave coming back will sell concert tickets ,but I don't think it will sell albums (case in point "Best Of..").Sammy coming back has greater possibilities on record but it will be hard to shake the nostalgia tag. Mike singing is the X factor.Who knows what it would sound like or how it would sell, but they wouldn't be bringing anyone else in and they could call the record "..and then there were three".Except Genesis already did that and putting the word "three" in the title might scare away people thinking Cherone was back. But seriously ,if Mike was in the running I don't think he would be popping up on stage with Sammy every night.

Yeah, Mike could do lead vocals on a new CD but it wouldn't work if they played old songs live in concert.

I asked Mike this question at his Cinco de Mayo party at Peppers Restaurant last May. His answer was that he did not want to put that kind of pressure on himself.

Van Halen doesn't need another high voiced singer. Listen to most any hard rock record made nowadays and you will rarely find a high voiced singer.

It doesn't sell anymore. That's one of the reasons Sammy's last Van Hagar CD and Vanhalen III were busts. Kids today do not dig that high pitched singing.

That's why Mike wouldn't work, and if they don't get Dave back, they have to find someone with a lower register.

Anyway, Mike would have trouble playing his complicated parts while singing.

The only reason I brought it up at all was b/c Mike sang lead on "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" on the III tour- and sounded fuckin' great! It's too bad he wouldn't do it- but neither would I in his position...

I think it would make perfect sense. Sure it wouldn't sound like VH did before, but I'd much rather have him as frontman than Cherone again....and would Eddie or Alex ever kick him out? They'd be real bastards if they did.

Balance was a bust? Maybe i'm wrong, but I thought that record did pretty good saleswise. Anybody got any numbers?

Not to mention that neither album was all that great. I know some people like III, but I heard the preview of it on the radio and about fell over. I couldn't believe it was VH.
AnywaY, Mike could do it, but I hope he doesn't.

"Balance" hit #1, sold 2.9 million copies and was on the chart for 41 weeks. Not bad for "a bust"...
