How great would it be to see WB release all rare Roth era stuff?

WB makes a fucking fortune while the curmudgeon brothers stick to their guns....fuck em.

At this point, all I can do is laugh. I have lost all hope of ever seeing VH do the right thing, or ANYTHING for that matter...fucking rockstars.

How hard can it be to put your personal feelings aside for a couple of months and make a CD?

How many people here have to go into work, EVERY DAY, and get along with people you wouldn't normally be around under other circumstances? I know I do. HEY ED! Why don't you take one for the team and give the people that made you rich what they deserve? I know that sounds shitty. Even selfish. He has earned the right to work with anyone he wants and shouldn't HAVE to do anything he doesn't want to do. True, but don't tell us that you DON'T KNOW what to do. That your "weighing your options". Cause from where I'm standing you have two choices, Roth or hanging up the wood and calling it a day. How is it that 99.9% of his fan base knows what his next move should be yet he is puzzled? It reminds me of how you constantly watch ref's blow reviewed call's. You just sit there in disbelief. Van Halen has become the "car wreck" of the music world. Tragic yes but ya gotta look and shake your head...sad.

I think it's likely that WB will release a box set now.

As for "getting back" at =VH=, hmmmmmm.... nah. They have bigger fish to fry, as much as it hurts to say that. But they'll make some $$$ however they can, and I'll buy the box set - UNLESS it doesn't have any rarities or live recordings, etc.

WB can shove that Box Set right up their fucking ASS! They won't get a fucking penny from me for one, that's for sure. I don't care if the fucker ONLY has Roth era unreleased material. I'm not giving my money to a bunch of fuckers that didn't even put any work into the music. The artists are the ones who deserve to make the money on CD sales, not some 20 year old snot nosed WB record executive that has no experience and only got the job because he knows someone on the inside. I'd rather mail Brad a check to hand deliver to the band for the downloaded copy I'll get off the Internet.

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

You can be sure that the band will be generously compensated for any material released by WB. They may have already gotten a big fat check last month for all we know...

when labels pay less than a 10% royalty on sales of CD's, i'd say the artist has already taken it in the ass.

    Amen.

Maybe that is why VH is leaving WB. I doubt that is the reason. I would say that WB is probably a little impatient - what with it being 4 years between anything they could make money off of...And honestly - if it were my business - I really don't blame them.

You're telling me that if WB releases a 5 cd boxset of 100% unreleased material, you wouldn't buy it???

I think we will get a box set, but I'm not convinced it'll be that great for all of us die-hard fans. Odds are it will be like the KISS box set and feature A LOT of album tracks, with a few unreleased tracks (most of which we've already got) or live tracks here and there.

Going to send this discussion to the Opinions Forum.

    Glenn,

Not to take this off VH. But I know you are also a Stones fan also, what are your expectations for their upcoming Box Set.

If Warner's were to put out a box set, in all likelihood it would be 70-80% previously released material, 10-15% unreleased live stuff, and whatever is left would be demo or unreleased studio tracks. Look to the Aerosmith and Kiss box sets as examples.

If I were in charge of such a project, the box would cover only 78-84 and would lean heavily to the pre-fame stuff (eg. Van Wutz recordings)...

Maybe the Sammy stuff warrants its own box set. Hey two VH box-sets are better than one, ha ha...

What would be cool though is if Warners somehow found a way of getting the three rumoured new tracks that VH is said to have completed with Roth and slap them on some career spanning 4 disc box...
