"van halen if they were smart" Talk about an endless list.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

Words that should never be used in the same phrase.

A) Van Halen
B) Smart

Get it?

That is a real OXYMORON.

Everyone who replied so far stated the truth perfectly.

You never know. This Sam and Dave tour might just be the spark that Ed and Al need to get this show on the road.

Thats kinda what I was thinking.
Sammy and Mike coming up with an idea to get Ed & Al off their couches and finally get back to work. Mike saying to Sam that it would be cool if he & Dave could meet so they could get it out of they way before the HOF induction next year. Kind of "break the ice".
And in turn get Ed's attention focused on what made him rich & famous to begin with.

I realize the cancer scare was a huge part in the lack of anything coming from VH, but according to Val in PARADE a few weeks back he's cured now.
Thats just an excuse he is using.

I don't think this Sam and Dave tour is gonna bring the brothers closer to working with these guys again. If anything I think it'll piss them off even more. Especially if Mike's involved in any way.

Of course this may be a good thing for Eddie fans. Maybe he'll start up a new band and you'll get your new music that way?

I'm not so sure it has much to do with being "smart". I really think it has a LOT more to do with giving a shit, which clearly, Eddie & Alex at least, do not.

Maybe 2 Van Hagar albums. Or maybe a true reunion without the soap opera. But the law of averages says at least 3 songs on the Van Hagar albums would have been better than anything on VDIII.

If Van Halen were smart????

This could be a big long list!
For me the only thing right now I would like them to do is one thing.

I would like to see Van Halen do what the rest of the Doors have done! How> go to thedoors.com and see what their own label is about. Bright Midnight. Every year the Doors will put out 6 soundboard shows for the next 6 years. All of the shows have been traded for years and they could have been crap audio. Now they are soundboard shows and I think it is cool. They are on their own label, Van Halen doesnt have one and with Live albums they own the copywrights.

Every year Van Halen could put out 6 or more kick ass soundboard shows and sell them from their webpage, like the doors and while they figure out who gets to sing next, make the fans VERY happ.

Thoughts?

Well, the Doors actually got that idea from Pearl Jam, who got the idea from the Grateful Dead, but it's a great idea anyway. and I'd love to see it. Especially since most Van HALEN boots aren't too good on sound quality.

Alex and Eddie are pissed off about what? I can see then GETTING pissed about Mike but, I think Mike just wants to do something constructive with his music.
Of course I would love to hear Eddie start a "new band"..maybe Van Halen again? It's been so long that any Van Halen (any combo) would sound new.
Just go for it!

With the Dave and Sam tour happening I honestly can't see the brothers reuniting with either Roth or Hagar. If you see Ed and Al on stage with Roth and Hagar it will be at the R&R Hall of Fame Inductions. The longer the brothers do nothing, the more I really think it's over.

Good point Mario VH. This Dave & Sammy thing now has me thinking VH is history. I've always felt it was "Dave or the grave" if you will, but now I don't see it happening.
