Ok

-Dave was a fantastic frontman in Van Halen - possibly the best ever.

-A lot of his solo work is also very good. Particularly EEAS and ALAE

-DLRband was a good honest attempt at simple, back to basics rock and roll.

Theres some good things. Now stop yer bitchin!

Dave wrote a great song about me, and put me on the cover of his ALAE album. Not just because I've owned his soul since June 6, 1976, but because like me, he knows how to market SIN.

Dave is one of the greatest rock 'n' roll frontmen and best overall entertainers ever. His characteristic manic stage presence and over-the-top machismo were an essential part, along with the musical genius of Edward Van Halen, of what catapulted Van Halen to rock legend status in the late 70's - mid 80's.

Master of the Vaudevillian one-liner and the consummate life-of-the-party, David Lee Roth is the living embodiment of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

Dave is... ah... um... what was the question again?

Seriously, he's determined, I'll give him that. I'm certain I would have hung things up after the DLR Band failed to register.

The DLR Band CD is a perfect example of Dave doing something good, but it could have been better.

The CD got almost no promotion. I didn't even know it was out until weeks after it was released. The way I found out about it was I heard Slam Dunk on the radio. You need better promotion than that.

Also he needed to get himself a bonfide producer. I love the DLR Band CD, but can you imagine how much better it would have been had Ted Templeman produced it?

I think that CD would have gone at least gold if it was produced better and had Warner Brothers promoting it.

For an indy release, I think it got stellar promotion. How many other albums that sell only 50k from a label with no distribution skills get a single on the radio? Or an honest to god single?

There was talk about the album for months before it came out, mostly because of that single that had been released to stores and radio well ahead of the album. For what it was, the promotion wasn't bad.

For an indy release sure. But if it had been on a major label it would have sold more was my whole point. BTW, you gotta love it when you use the word stellar.

There was talk amongst die-hards, but Mr. Casual fan didn't know anything about it and still don't in some cases.

My whole point is that if Dave had done it right and had help of a major label that it would undoubtably sold much better. The foundation was good.

I can agree with that. Had a major label been willing to take it on, they'd have made him re-record it with a real producer. It's too bad that didn't happen.

No idea at all. I imagine he did. I forget the events surrounding it. There was a fair bit of time between the Slam Dunk/King of the Hill single and the album. Wasn't it a couple of months, for those who might remember?

I think the album was really done on a budget. Wasn't Erwin Musper the engineer? I seem to recall that. The production values used dropped a lot between the recording of Don't Piss Me Off and DLR Band. Not hiring a session bassist for DLR Band is a bit telling in regards to the budget being tight.

DLR Band was good but the production was pretty amateurish, but hey it was an indy release. Best thing he's done in years.
