well- you cannot deny the shift in preferences in recent reviews- a lot less pro-sammy and anti-dave... it is almost the opposite now-

is this because sammy fans are just being quiet? or has Dave actually improved through the tour? or is Dave just more popular on the east coast?

whatever it is- it feels nice to see the preference shift slightly to Dave for now- still looking forward to seeing Sammy tonight- (and REALLY looking forward to dave and the classic VH sound!) but i would have felt terrible if Dave was as bad as earlier reviews had indicated...

see ya' at the show tonight!

Sammy is better liked in LA and Dave is better liked in NY. Doesn't surprise me one bit.

NY loves acts like Kiss = All show and no talent.

LA loves acts like Van Halen = great talent and no show.

I can tell you that the NYC/NJ/Philly area is BIG BIG Van HALEN(roth era), and DLR territory...

But, I would guess that Roth has improved also, I would say it's a combo of both.

    We aren't hicks out here...

maybe the reason there are more pro Roth reviews coming these days is because Sammy and Mona got tired of registering new screen names every night after their show

For some reason here it doesn't matter what time it is or what rock station is on but Boston is always on the radio! I think that Boston is pure Mormon Rock and Roll.

I have a question about it. There is a station here called Rock 99 and they play almost exclusively Roth era VH. I've even heard "Romeo Delight" on there. I know they are Clear Channel, how do they come up with the playlists that are so diverse?

    That's a pretty broad statement.

Just help me jog my memory really quickly.....Poison, Ratt, Motley Crue, and about 20 other of those so-called "Talentless Glam Bands" (not my words) not only reached popularity while in Los Angeles, but had success primarily BECAUSE L.A.'s image-oriented "musical tastes" were deemed as the "trend-setter" in the early and mid eighties.

As I recall, Metallica was run-out of LA because, to paraphrase, they were "great talent, and no showmanship".

Would you like the opportunity to retract your statement???

I think the Northeast overall is just an underrated VH area. Both Dave and Sammy have strong support up here. On the Balance tour, they easily sold out every show in the NY/NJ/PA area. That can go for every tour of theirs before VH3. They have had rather large crowds in Camden and Holmdel (capacity 17,500). For those of you who don't know Jersey, Camden is right across the river from Philly, so a crowd of 13k should be somewhat expected. However, Holmdel is in the middle of the suburbs, a solid hr+ commute to the city. They drew more there than Camden and played 2 sold out shows there in 95 (in addition to the Meadowlands a few mths earlier). The radio stations in Jersey have always been pretty split between the 2. Roth played in Jersey a few yrs ago at a bar/ club that seats around 1000, while Hagar played at a theatre that seats 1800. Neither are too strong by themselves, but together or with a few different people in their band, their support here will rival with any area.

Just as an example, DHA, the main Jersey rock station (RAT is actually it's sister station-same owner)had a very big contest in 95 where it had people vote on their favorite bands. I forgot the actual amt of people that voted, but it was a lot, maybe 6 figures. Zeppelin was #1 and VH was #2. Other bands fyi- Beatles 5, Aerosmith & AC/DC were both in the 9-13 range. So, if/ when they reunite with one of those two, they can count on a few sold out shows in Jersey.

They also usually play several sold out shows at Jones Beach in LI (capacity 14k), well, before VH3 of course, but even that tour had a decent crowd there.
