Eddie brings a riff to Dave who writes lyrics and shapes it into "And The Cradel Will Rock". Safely securing anther legendary song in R&R history for many R&R fans to remember.

    or

Sammy is in the band and Eddie brings the riff to him and it becomes the "Cabo Strut." Safely writing a good song that pleases Van Hagar fans until the next release. Not music that puts VH in the top 10 of all time, but good music no doubt.

Pure speculation here, but can you see the difference in where VH history might have went had Sammy been in the band during those years?

Good, but not legendary, in my opinion.

Hmmm, And The Cradle Will Rock is NOT legendary. It's one of the weakest songs during the DLR era. It's not even the best song in that album (that has to go to Everybody Want Some, Romeo Delight follows after that).

I see what you are getting at but I probably will have to disagree. 1988 Sammy was a lot different then 1980 Sammy. 8 years is a big difference in people's lives especially in the music biz. Look at VH of 1978 compared to VH of 1986 to VH of 1994. I'm sure Sammy's take on the song would have been different then Dave's but it still could have been a hit IMO.

Anybody know what hits Sammy was writing in 1980?

Seriously, not trying to be a prick here, I just don't know?

"And the Cradle will rock is legendary IMO. It is one of the best songs ever written, IMO. In 1980 Sammy released "Danger Zone," one of his finest albums. As for that album having "hits," I don't know if it had any hit singles, but it did have some classics that are still hits with the fans, such as "Love or Money," "20th Century Man," "The Iceman," and "Run for your life." A great album.

Ok, so they may not be radio hits nowadays, but they still stand as some of Hagar's best solo work, IMHO.

I personally have not heard any of those Sammy songs. I came upon Sammy during the VOA album years.

I never disliked Sammy, but never thought he was legendary. I did have friends who thought he was awsome and were not happy when he joined VH because they thought it would bring him down.

I think his Vaan Hagar stuff is weaker than his solo material.

I had a girlfriend who liked, Survivor, James Tayor, and Air Supply. She hated VH with Roth, but from 5150 on really liked VH, citing "Dreams" as a great song. That's when I knew they were writting shitty music.
