it has been 5 years with no kind of news, i know eddie went thru some bad times and i wish him well. we have heard nothing on if he would work with dave or sammy or even go with a 4th singer,i use to hold on to every last bit of hope but i feel with everyday that goes by it looks like we may never hear anything new from van halen. i'm thankful for all the music they gave us it was some great stuff. i do hope i'm wrong and we get to hear from them again and if we do i will be there, it gets harder to stand by a band that wont even talk to their fans.
van halen shall return. what you think is nothing might be something after all.

This is kind of like your woman leaving you. You think it wont happen, then you hear that door slam and the car starts and drives away. Three days later, while you are sitting in a silent stupor in your house, it dawns on you that it is for real. The three days is five years...five years! Even if it was announced today that they were coming back, who would support it? Even if everyone who ever joined this board ran out to get the product, that is only 6000 people. A new VH release would probably be on some indie label, with no distribution, no air play, and consequently, sell about 30,000 copies. No one but us would care. I think their egos are too large to even think about experiencing something like that, and that alone spells the end.

You are probably right but we can't stop hoping for a comeback. We are stubborn because of our love for the music that this band has given us.

Van Halen isn't officially over until Eddie says it is....until this happens fans will continue to hope. The longer the wait, the less chance VH will have on making any kind of impact in the music world regarding tours or charts etc.

I think, perhaps, the hardest thing to swallow over the whole deal is that this happened to Van Halen. They were on top of the world in the late '80s and survived the grunge revolution of the early '90s. They survived a lead singer change and remained just as popular as before.

We're used to the flash in the pan acts that come and go in less than a decade. I wouldn't shed a tear over, say, Porno for Pyros' lost career. But VH was supposed to be different. They had all the signs of being a band that could last for many more years, becoming a part of popular society in general. And then... nada.

It just leaves you asking, "What the fuck just happened?"
"Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

All Van Halen needs to do is re-mix their hits with some clever disco/techno stuff.

Maybe put out long versions of their hits too.

That will regenerate interest in the band.

You have taken the name of Van-Halen in vain.
How can you put the words Van-Halen and Disco in the same sentance? I bought that van-halen remix disc last year, and it sucked donkey dicks.

On the other hand I bought it because I run a mobile DJ system on the weekends, and I thought it could be a good way to get people to dance to Van-Halen.

Yep; they're finished. In this era of Hip Hop, a VH reunion--with Sammy or Dave--will be poorly received by most. The only ones who will purchase the CD will be those of us who visit this site. Did you notice the difference in the fans' reaction between the MTV music award show a few years ago when it looked like Dave was in the band as compared to this past year when Sam and Dave came out? There was interest in the former, but none in the latter. Time has surpassed VH as many other 80-90s rock bands; it's simply a different era.

Of course, I'd be the first to buy the new CD and go to the concert but the vast majority of music fans could care less. It looks like both Sammy and Dave will spend the rest of their days playing small shows with other 80s artists. I hope to God they don't play in one of those shows where they gather about 10 washed up artists and have a show. Can you see them playing with Flock of Seaguls, NightRanger, Poison, John Waite, and Cinderella? Very sad indeed.

I disagree for 2 reasons: $$$$ and egos. If they go on tour with either Sam or Dave they would sellout all over. Ticket prices are a lot higher than they were in '95. I know they say they're are not into it, but at some pt they'll give in. Also, they're egos are huge, all of them want to be on top again. I think they're silence has a lot to do with Eddie's personal life and Ray Danniels. I also wouldn;t be surprised if they came back with #4. That thought really scares me...
