Something I was thinking about today. Suppose for instance Eddie was to hold a press conference tomorrow and announce that JC Chasez of N Sync was to become the new lead singer of Van Halen. Eddie says something like "I know a lot of you out there are sitting there thinking 'what the fuck?' when you hear this, but trust me. The guy grew up on rock music and really can rock when given the chance. Sure he was in a boy band, but the guy can sing his ass off. Give him a chance and I swear you won't be dissappointed."

Now, I'm not saying by any means I wanna see an N Syncer in VH, but I was curious what you all would think should something weird like that happen. Would you give the band a chance? Or would you reject them simply upon the previous history of the singer? Just a weird brainstorm.

    (My opinion only)

I would probably say, "Eddie, hon, I love ya to pieces but I strongly suggest you see a psycho-the-rapist". J/K

I'm sorry but, I don't think I can answer this question seriously, considering the 4th lead singer would be a bad-ass wannabe NSYNC'R.

Won't ever happen. I don't think. Unless there is no GOD, and I'm VERY sure there is one.

I used the N Sync guy as purely an example. But, feel free to insert any singer you think would be the last person VH would ever hire. Like Michael Boltin or something. My question is just would you give them a chance with someone singing who you'd never want to listen to in the first place.

Ok Jeff, I'm not gonna lie to ya. I am such a HUGE VH fan that I would try to buy the album and listen. As long as Mike and Al aren't replaced by a member of backstreet boys or something. I guess I'm just that DAMN loyal of a fan.

I would give anything they put out it's fair share of spins. I usually listen to an album about three times within the first day of having it, and "suspend judgement" for about a week.

Those listens I kinda keep they mindframe of this is where a band is and what they are wanting/capable of saying right now.

Subsequent listens get treated as "why did they choose to take the snapshot they did knowing general public perception?"

I judge a band and it's latest offering (as in keeping it in that perspective) by how they "balance" these factors. What they were willing or how much they are willing to compromise these factors.

Just me though... I doubt most people listen to music like that.

    peace.
