For Ed, I think reuniting with Sammy is a lot harder than it would be reuniting with Dave 'cause Eddie & Sam were really friends. With DLR, they were never really friends' to begin with so I don't think he's surprised or shocked when Dave takes shots at him. When all the shit with Sammy happened, Ed lost more than just a lead singer he lost his best friend. I think Ed, was way more pissed & hurt by Sammy 'cause he considered him a friend. I remember after Sammy joined the band, every freakin' picture I saw of these guys, they were smilin' & huggin each other. They were genuine friends. They were such good friends that Sammy moved into a house close to Ed & Val. Being the sensitive guy that he is Ed probably still holds much more of grudge against Sammy because he feels he was stabbed in the back by a him. With Dave, Ed probably felt there was less at stake. By constrast, getting back with Sammy would be like trying to hook up with an ex-lover who screwed you over. It wouldn't be easy.

I agree that if Ed was to reunite with Sam there would be an entirely different sort of baggage as they were much closer friends.

But wouldn't Sammy have more reason to feel double crossed or stabbed in the back as Ed fired him and then told the world that he quit?

As Sammy has been telling interviewers lately that he wants his friend back, shouldn't Eddie be able to forgive and forget too?

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here. I think Ed could reunite with Sam easier because they were friends. Musically, for Ed to be satisfied would take a lot more with Dave due to his vocal range. So musically, I think they would be okay with Sam. Getting reacquainted with a friend after falling out is difficult but after what Ed has been going thru, I think he would be more open to it.

It still boggles my mind how Ed was so musically satisfied with most of the CRAP that were on Van Hagar albums.

The hardest part for Eddie would have to be enduring those half-ass nursery rhymes that Sammy calls lyrics night after night.

It's a trade off I suppose....Dave's nightly cheesy 1984 stage act, or Sam's cheesy lyrics I guess. Which is the lesser of two evils?

Sammy nursery rhymes are way better than Daves
cover tunes, Vegas Act, Freak show videos and lets not forget the Karate side show we've all seen 100 times now...

Dave IRRITATES Ed. Sam and Ed just need to weed through some bad times and put them in the past. I think it'd be way easier for Ed to work with Sam.

The former, without a doubt.

If you think Ed looks skinny these days, imagine if Sam came back... Ed would disappear! :nofood:

I'd take Dave's stage act, played out as it is, over Sam's lyrics (or anything else of his, for that matter) in a heartbeat.

IMHO, it doesn't really matter who Ed kisses and makes up with. What matters is the ability to get out some good ol' Rock and Roll. Maybe that is what the real problem is: Maybe Ed can't find the drive in his writing anymore, that's why he's playing golf instead of music... Maybe after all the shit he has been through, he just can't/won't do it anymore. Since I, just as many of you have, contributed to that nice home and nice car he's driving around in... Some closure would be kind of nice. I don't think it will happen or that it's owed to me, but it would be nice.

I'd much rather be subjected to "Dave's nightly cheesy 1984 stage act" because I'd be getting better songs to go with it. I have to live with the albums A LOT LONGER than I do the concert.

I've quit bands before just because being friends with the person/persons was more important. Furthermore, ya don't have to like someone to work magic with them.
