It's pure unabashed, out of control, free-wheelin' DLR. Seeing this video it's clear who brought the fun, games and X-rated attitude to the VH party. It's a thrill to see the inner workings of the Roth psyche coming to a boil and spilling over the rim staining the shag carpet.

And you can tell he had a blast putting it together. It's a frenetic mix of the bizarre, camp, and burlesque.

There's slight hint of amateurness in some of the cuts that was calculated perfectly to give the viewer the illusion that you are seeing the results of an impromptu video documentation of a summer time bash at Camp David.

Like William Castle's final film Shanks starring Marcel Marceau, David Lee Roth's No Holds Bar B Q, written, directed, and produced by Dave himself, is like the work of a crazed avant garde French director exiled to creating his filmic oddities in the French Riviera. It's is kind of anti-Hollywood while at the same time being as innately Hollywood as Diamond Dave himself.

And the music, including a few covers, is top notch.

Just think about it. It's the intersection of this kind of DLR zaniness with the serious musical approach of Edward Van Halen that still makes the concept of a reunion incredibly exciting.

I would only assume that this video would follow in the footsteps of Dave's stunning solo career

Any NYC Dance remixes or duets with Travis Tritt on this DVD?
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Okay, I think you can take your nose out of Roth's ass now. It's nice to know that his publicist posts here now. If I want a commercial, I'll go listen to Gene Simmons or something. And I think you need to go to an E.N.T. specialist to get that wax out of your ears, or write a dictionary to redefine "top notch", cause that crap that's posing as music has gots to go!

Mr. templeman, could you please do us a favor and start posting these topics where they belong, namely in the Opinions forum! Thanks.

Could go to the Videos forum I guess, but since it's not commercially available, I'm going to send it to the Opinions forum.

Personally, I'd love to see this video released on DVD, though I'm losing faith that it's going to be.

Why is it that you're the only one raving about this DVD? If it's that good, where are all the other good reviews?

When I picked up the VHS at the Gorge show I have to tell you that I was HYPED to see this bad boy! But after getting home and seeing it I had mixed feelings.

This hour long vid looks to be the footage that Dave was to post online with his "Club Dave". If that would have been the case then yes, it would have been entertaining going to the site every week and seeing small parts posted one at a time. But as something that he is trying to sell and get distribution on all I can think is this man has truly lost his mind!

The quality is not so good. Sound can barly be heard half the time, he uses the same songs over and over again making it a difficult watch at times, and the whole Baker Street section with him in the Mojo Dojo with the sword is painful!

The good things include the midget drinking JD with captian Dave watching, Dave playing the steeldrum and welcoming everyone to the Mojo Dojo (Funny as Hell!), and that Dave actually repeats the program with his commentary right after the credits are finished. I was kinda shocked how Dave was not being typical Dave with his comments.

I can honestly say that I am happy to have gotten it, but do not know where the $1,000,000 went. This does not look like it cost even a quarter of the money. As for a DVD version, I think that it will be us, the fans that picked up the VHS that finance that venture. But it would be foolish to think that he should get it transfered to that format. No major label is going to distribute it, and even if they did who would buy it? Maybe the same 45,000 that bought the DLR band CD (I am one of them), but I think that the majority of us would have already snagged a VHS copy at the show, and I do not think that most are going to rebuy it for $30+.

I love Dave, but do think he needs to do the same thing that the Brothers need to do, and that is get into the studio and record a new CD of straight ahead rock(not remixes of cover tunes). This will remind people that he is an artist that cares about not just his fans, but that he is not just an artist that is still licking the jar from many many years ago!

I've been ruminating on the completely drug free hallucinatory acid trip I experienced two nights ago when I went on the ride that is called David Lee Roth's No Holds Bar B Que.

Again, if you are a diehard Dave fan then you'll 'get it'.

Another comparison that came to mind is Alejandro Jodorowsky's 'El Topo', a bizare non-linear Mexican western released in 1970.

If you want narrative structure go see 'Minority Report'. If you're itching for audio/visual material to put on the TV while cracking a cold one and lightin' up the bud, this video is just the package to pull your id into the vortex of 'Club Dave'.

I love it and can't wait to listen to the director's commentary.
