With nothing certain about anything new from VH as a band in the future, should eddie join Satriani and Vai on a G3 tour or who do you reckon eddie should go on this type of tour with and if so would the response be positive from the public, I would love something like this.......

Nuno
Vai
Eddie with band (Alex and Mike)

I would think if he ever did anything like this, it would be with a couple of friends, like say Luke and the Right Reverand Billy G. Now that would be cool, cause those 3 guys rip but with different styles. I think they could spend a weekend together and work up an incredible set of cover tunes, maybe an original or two, of course with Billy G wailin' on lead vocals. I would love to hear any 2 of them rippin' unison leads while the other guy is layin' down some awsome rhythm.
That strongest point in their favor is that they are easily as strong of rhythm players as they are lead players, and while many people would think it might tough for them not to get in each other's way, when you have people who like and respect each other and each others' playing, they just have that feel for when it's time to trade off, or back off, or hook up. I promise you these 3 guys could play with any solid rhythm section for the first time and blow away any song on the radio from the last 5-10 years, and that would just be a free-style jam.
That would be way cool, I say!

AWESOME CHOICES!!!!

My favorite guitar players are EVH, Vai and Nuno. I would love to see them play together on a G3 tour!

This would be a great topic VH Opinions, so I will move it there.

I was searching Kazaa last night and i found a song that said it was from EVH, Steve Morse and Vai.
I listened to it and it was "5150". I don't know who it was singing on it, but it sounded like it was done in the studio but was unpolished.

I'd like to see Ed throw his hat in that ring.... I saw G3 at HOB Orlando. Vai, Satch, and Pettrucci<sp?> from Dream Theater. The environment overall wasn't just about the shred, but the people appreciated that each phrase was a sentence and not just notes for the sake of being played for technical prowess. I think a tour like that would be great for Ed as a place to forge the shapeless form that he has become into a solid identity that can then contribute to whatever VH the band will or won't move on to do.

Speaking of Lukather, Toto was live on the radio
here in LA the other day. They've got a record
of cover tunes coming out, and what I heard of it
was smokin' (Bodhisatva - the Steely Dan tune).

I saw G3 last year here and it rocked! I would get rid of Satriani and keep Petrucci, Vai/Sheehan, and add EDDIE VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!

I think EVH on a g3 would be kewl...He is not the technician Vai is but EVH would add some rock n roll style Rawness to the lineup. Thumbs up!

Bro, I thought it was Axl Rose when I heard it, but someone on this board said it was some other band.
Can't remember the name though, sorry.
Someone's bound to know it here though. If I find it, I'll let ya know.

A buddy of mine was at the LA NAMM show years ago (the debut of EBMM maybe?) and said EVH was jamming with Steve Morse and Albert Lee. Morse ripped off a solo, then Albert Lee, then Ed. They went around again and when it came Ed's turn, he gave the 'cut' gesture (across throat) to the other guys and stood back and watched. My buddy (a huge VH fan) said Eddie didn't have the I-IV-V chops these guys had. The others were lyrical and technical and Ed came off as wankin'. I wish I had been there to witness this.
HOWEVER:
I did see the vid of Cheryl Crow and Eddie and Ed sure sounded human on that cut. I also heard a bit of Star Fleet Project and it sounded kinda wanky too.
QUESTION: Is EVH well-rounded as a musician or is Van Halen his only voice?

IMHO, VH is Ed's only voice, albeit a very powerful, musical voice.

Your opinions will be a very interesting read.

Two things man:

1. What Cheryl "hot ass" Crow video are you talking about, and where can I find it.
2. I think Ed could and has done a few things outside the "VH voice."
-Beat it solo
-Respect the wind
-Luk's album

These are just a few. Let me know about that Vid. man. Never heard this before.

A "G3" type of tour would be a KILLER thing for Eddie and everybody! It could even open the stage up to some new local tallent at each show? A chance for some lucky person to jam on stage with these guys durring the oncore?

I could think of a lot of guitar players that would be good on the tour!

Edward Van Halen
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Eric Johnson
Steve Morse
Jimmy Page
Eric Clapton
Steve Lukather
Kirk Hammett
George Lynch
Chris DeGarmo
