The only 4th singer (not counting Dave) I could imagine being successful for VH, and theoretically it is possible, is Chris Cornell. I don't think he is with anybody right now. I could deal with that, his shit with Soundgarden was good, and he would have appeal since Soundgarden is more "modern" than VH (not better, but newer). I think the younger generation might would identify with him better than anyone else, probably even more so than Dave. All aside though, I hope Dave is back.
Also, I know the Coverdale rumors are false, but is he really as bad as everyone says? I haven't heard him since Whitesnake, he wasn't really terrible. I heard the Page/Coverdale album was pretty good. Maybe someone that knows a little more than me can enlighten me.

    EXACTLY

I've been thinking this as the only possible #4 myself. And.....the best choice. He is one of my top 4 or 5 vocalists of all time. I was on a big Soundgarden kick a few weeks ago. I got his solo cd from last year, and it really shows his diversity. He would be great in any band.

I think he would be a good fit...it would be interesting to hear what they would come up with.
But in reality, I would rather see Soundgarden get back together.

As much as I like him, I don't think the VH fans will take anyone besides Dave or Sammy.

    Quick story about Chris Cornell.

When I lived out in Seattle I ran into him at a small bar down in Pioneer Square, and bought him a beer at the bar, he was really cool

I love Chris Cornell's voice and all, but I just can't see him in the Mighty Van Halen.

Actually I could picture that working! Who knows? With Chris we might get another Fair Warning. (A darker, more edgier album)

Chris IS a darker kinda guy...

Look if I couldn't have Dave or Sammy.....I would choose Chris.

    Good topic!

I know that no one's serious in here, because this isn't EVEN a pipe-dream.

Chris Cornell is pretty cool, but he's not VH.

I mean, Willie Nelson is cool, too, but I don't want to hear his version of "Mean Street."

    (On SECOND thought... LOL.)

I said in a post a long time ago that Cornell would be cool but to be honest I think Cornell would turn VH down if they asked him. VH's whole image isn't something that Cornell wants to be a part of. I could see him doing a song with them on stage or something.

I was the first one to suggest Chris Cornell, back in late 1996, even before Soundgarden had split up. I still believe Cornell would have been a much better fit than Cherone by far. Could he have saved VD III? I doubt it. I don't think anyone (short of Jesus Christ himself) could have altered the destiny of that album and tour. Although the music itself would have been better, in all likelihood.

In the event that there were no Van HALEN reunion in progress, I think a collaboration between Eddie and Chris Cornell would be interesting. However, releasing it under the name "Van Halen" would be suicidal.

You're right FORD, 'Van Halen' as a group has run its course, unless they go back with Dave or Sam. An Ed/Chris Cornell collaboration would be cool though a la Coverdale/Page (sorry FORD), which was killer. Cornell is a great vocalist, and would be a great collaboration with Eddie.

    David Coverdale is better.
Most people never even heard of Cornell.
I don't like his voice, the only Soundgarden song I like that I can think of is Spoonman.

I would still like to hear a Ronnie James Dio/Van Halen album...but that's just me and I'm strange.

Funny, Willie was probably thinking, "David Lee Roth is cool, but I don't want to hear his version of Night Life".

I know people have said that Gary Cherone didn't have the attitude to carry the VH lead singer crown. While I don't agree with that, I think that Chris Cornell has even less of the type of attitude that helps sell Van Halen. That's not a knock at him at all, I just can't see him singing songs from any era of Van Halen.
