I'm still fairly new to the forum so please excuse me if this has been discussed before. I was wondering how much of a say did Michael Anthony have in the band?

Michael Anthony is on salary as a hired hand and has absolutely no say in any VH matters. Not even sure how much bass he actually plays on the last few VH releases.

I wouldn't be suprised if he takes out the trash and sweeps up after recording sessions.

Read the online chapters from Sammy's book for more backround on this.
It's really sad ,greedy ,and pathetic behavior by the Brothers to stick it to a guy they've played with for THIRTY years.
The song ain't dirty
It's really just the way we sing it

True, but Mikey also knows who butters his bread.

Maybe he's been getting by on the same crumbs that the band feeds us, but couldn't take it no more, so he asked permission to go out and play!

And we know all of this how? Let's not forget that all of this is purely speculation. We don't know Mike's relationship with the brothers, despite what we hear. There is nothing objective or black and white about what we read in SH's book or hear from some other source.

I hope that Ed and Al realize how much Mike contributes to the 'VH' sound. Without Mike's vocals, you still have a great rock band but just not the cream of the crop.

VHIII lacked Mike's vocals and that certainly was one of the factors for it not selling as well.

Regardless of his creative input, he's listed with songwriting credits on every song/album of Van Halen. That means his bread is buttered by residuals payed every time the song is played on the radio or sporting events.

Pretty nice deal, if I may say so myself.

Considering the guys skill set, it's better to be lucky than good.

Michael Anthony would never have been a rock star (if you can call him that) without Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. The same can be said about Alex Van Halen.

Neither of these guys is of professional caliber on their instruments. It's only because Eddie Van Halen is afraid of musical competition that he surrounded himself with such second rate talent.

LOL! You crack me up man. You must have forgotten to take the meds again. Alex and Mikey aren't pro-caliber musicians. LOL, damn man I fell off the chair after reading that one.

And if you really believe that, then you can't say DLR isn't a second rate musician either. How dumb.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. LMFAO, tell me you don't honestly believe that.

Hey!! I came up with the "bread buttering" bit first, and I claim full credit for that--now where's my residual!!

I do not agree, I think Alex was one helluva drummer in his day (Hot for Teacher for example), I think Eddie is holding the reins in as far Mikes playing goes, he sounds excellent in Push Comes to Shove among others. Saying neither one is of professional caliber is just a retarded, foolish, and ignorant statement.
