I want to play this song in my history class as a presentation about the class war (Rich Vs Poor). Is this what this song is even about? If not, what is it about?
Thanks in advance

Why not play a song that has nothing to do with your topic. "For my presentation on the class war I would like to play 'I Cum Blood' by Cannibal Corpse"

Lyrics:

Psst, hey, come on man, wake up.
Oh, yeah, yeah!
I see the power Changin hands
Risin from the streets A self made businessman,
Knows how the system can be beat.
Oh, we're the lost generation,
Have no place to go,
The road to destruction Is all we need to know,
Cause it's a rip off We're stripped, drawn, and cheated,
We're flat stone cold lied to
But we're not defeated, Nooo, sir
Easy money It's your way out,
Join the Family No middleman,
No I.R.S. Your ticket out of poverty
Oh, we're the lost generation,
I hold fate from a string
Lookin for direction
Reachin' out for anything, so
Dream another dream
This dream is over, (oooh oooh oh)
Dream another dream
This dream is over, (dream another dream)
Dream another dream
This dream is over, (oooh) over yeah, (dream another dream)
So dream another dream
(Solo)
Ah,
Yeow!!!!
Oh, it's a rip off,
We're stepped on an' cheated,
Flat stone cold lied to,
We're not defeated, noooo,
Dream another dream, this dream is over, (oooh oooh oh)
Dream another dream, this dream is over, (dream another dream)
Dream another dream, this dream is over, (oooh oooh oh) oh
Dream another dream, this dream is over, over yeah, (dream another dream)
Dream another dream, (ooh ooh ooh)
Dream another dream, (dream another dream, oooh ooh ooh)
Dream another dream, oh, this dream's all over (dream another dream)
Dream another dream, (dream another dream)
Dream another dream...

i don't know if this song plays into class war - it always seemed to me to have as much or more to do with a generation's disenchantments - that the dream of advancement was dead, and those romantic days of america where you could work your way from the factory floor to the front office were gone, leaving youth to turn to gangs and crime to get paid.

that may be giving sammy a lot more credit than what he deserves, but it's the vibe i got. one of the reasons i liked this song - it's a little more of a stretch than 'spanked' and tip-top mucic from the bros.

whether those rosy days ever really existed, or whether things are all that bad today is open to debate. i don't think so, but that doesn't mean there isn't as shocking a disparity between the rich and poor in today's america, much less globally speaking.

some other songs to consider (if you don't mind going without VH) "born in the usa" "my hometown" or "used cars" by springsteen, "clampdown" by the clash, "shit out of luck" by the bosstones (lyrics on this one aren't much better than sam's), "jackie brown" and "love and happiness" by mellencamp, and "open letter" by living colour.
just some ideas.

I always thought more than 'rich vs poor' the song is about the opportunity provided by street dealing as opposed to legimate business opportunities.

"Risin from the streets A self made businessman,
Knows how the system can be beat.
Oh, we're the lost generation,
Have no place to go
The road to destruction Is all we need to know"

The dream of growing up in the inner city and having a normal ascension into the business world is dead.

"Easy money It's your way out,
Join the Family No middleman,
No I.R.S. Your ticket out of poverty"

"Dream another dream, this dream is over"

Sam is asking them to find a new way out of the poverty

I've done a couple of presentations in school with songs. I did one using Jimi Hendrix's "Manic Depression", it's about wanting to have "relations" with a guitar I also did one with Pink Floyd's "One of These Days" playing, it was awesome, very spooky song.

Welp, he deserves the credit because the man himself pretty much gave this exact explanation on the BALANCE World Premiere Radio Broadcast. I could pull out the cassette and listen if you need his exact quote.

Hey guys, thanks for the insight. It was really helpful. Ikeda, I really liked your interpretation of the song, and the songs you mentioned below are all great, especially the Bruce ones
I had just recently bought "Right here Right now" and when I heard Sam at the end of the song talk about the government it all sorta came into perspective,
How to make a “Mad Anthony”

2 oz Cabo WaboŽ Tequila
1 oz Spicy V8
Juice from a fresh Lime
A generous dollop of Mad Anthony’s Hot Sauce
Combine in a shaker full of ice and shake it up
Pour into shot glass garnished with
a dab of salt
a small slice of lime
a slice of Serrano or Jalapeno chili pepper

glad to help red. good luck.

and dka, i apologize for the back-handed compliment to sammy. if that's what he was going for, then he nailed it in my estimation. i was in germany when balance came out, so i didn't get to hear much of the american press.

sometimes sammy's lyrics look overly simple on paper, but he could put plenty of heart and muscle behind them, plus turn a clever lyric here and there.

Some of the boots I have, after he played that song, Sam would say:

"We got millions of ppl ladies and gentleman, their eyes are open, they're walking, they're talking, but their still asleep, we gotta wake 'em up!!"

Maybe you can use that, it's pretty cool.
