I am all for this reunion and love the Roth-era VH, but after 17 years of not recording an album toghther, do they really have any gas left in the tank to make a kick-ass album? In my opinion, Van Halen has recorded the best kick-ass rock ever, with 90% of it being with Roth, so for them to try to reignite that level of intensity would be foolish. I hope that the band continues to grow musically and make more creative music with Roth. Look at it this way - in concert, they will play all the kick-ass songs we want to hear, so why try to record new music along the lines of WACF or Fair Warning (which is rumored)that won't hold a candle to the old stuff? They should not try to duplicate what they once did, rather they should record a new chapter. VH has not recorded a great kick-ass song in a very long time, however, they have done some really creative stuff recently that would work great with Roth. Any opinions on this point of view?

VH can and has made kick ass music with or without Roth. So the answer is yes.

It never concerns me when people say that Van Halen is going to record songs in the style of WACF or Fair Warning. The main reason being, so much time and experience is behind them, I don't think they could just magically begin to write in a style they left behind 20 years ago. And I don't believe they will anyway. These guys are wise enough to be aware of where they are in history, and it isn't 1981 any more for them than it is for us.

Anyway, yes, I absolutely believe that Van Halen can put together a kick ass hard rock album, and I can't wait to hear it.

I think their new songsa will be kind of a mix between what CGTSNM and MWM sounded like and what the old stuff sounded like! Dave's voice is in waaaay better condition than it was in 1996, so I think it should e a great album!!

What an asinine question. You really had to pose this ponderance? Of course they can and will continue to make kickass music. Why? CUZ ITS VAN HALEN! It is just a question of when.

I think with or without David Lee Roth they can make a monumental Hard Rock album today. Preferably, with Dave or Sammy they will give us at least three or four million in sales.

If they choose to go the Santanna route with different people on different songs, well that would be quite an interesting sell.

A fourth singer would send them up the river more then likely.

4 years ago, Van HALEN proved they could still be Van HALEN with Me Wise Magic. There is no reason to believe a full Van HALEN album couldn't equal or surpass the quality of that song.

Can VH make another Kick Ass Album? Let me start by saying anything Michael, Alex, and King Edward make is Kick Ass in my book. The only question I have is whether Roth can deliver. The early VH was so good because of the incredible music and some of the wise ass, and sometimes insightful lyrics from Dave. Having said that, if Dave brings to the table shit like "slam Dunk" then I'll be disappointed. However, I really feel that Dave can write very catchy and inspiring lyrics when he wants to. I really want to hear some serious, deep thoughts from Dave combined with the much more mature and different sounds from Mike, Alex and Edward. Does anybody follow me? I mean I'm really excited to hear this new material. The magic from 40 some year olds in 2001 as compared to 20 year old young men in 1978! I guess the question is whether Dave has matured. Anyway, I very happy and excited about this new Phase of Van Halen. Peace Brothers and Sisters!

I think VH would be foolish NOT to try to reignite the fire from 17 years ago. Why even make an album if you're not going to try to kick maximum ass? Why not try to revive the sound from '84? It's what I want. It's what everybody wants. You can still be creative and rock hard. They were creative with every album they made with Dave and they all kicked major boootay.

With the exceptions of cheese ballads and VD III of course

Disappointed??? I'll take Slam Dunk over anything from VD III or Marching To Mars.

Try listening to Black Sand from the DLR Band album. The answer is yes. But he is still Dave, and why would you want him not to be?

Consider this: NO ONE is making hard rock albums anymore never mind GREAT hard rock albums, so even if there is a remote chance that this album will be sub-par (i doubt it) it will be better than everything else anyway. I expect it to rock out.
