In 2003, besides the hard core musician types, how many more people are going to care about David Lee Roth playing with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan than care about David Lee Roth playing with Bart Walsh and James Lomenzo??

What kind of sales figures does Vai get these days? I really don't know, but I'm guessing that if you combined the sales of Dave's last record and Vai's last record they aren't going to be large enough to suggest that a reunion of the two will get them back to late 80's levels.

Dave's days at the top are gone. That's fine, there should still be a market for Dave to create and present his art. I'm not convinced that Dave with the EEAS Band would do a whole lot more business right now than Dave could do on his own. Therefore, Dave should only go that route because his heart is in it and he believes he can make quality music with those guys. If he's doing it with the expectation of getting back to platinum sales and packed arenas, he's deluding himself.

The only way Dave will ever be back on top is if he and Van Halen get back together and do more then just an oldies tour ala KISS. That's cool if they play all that great material because it's great stuff but they should have a full length record to promote it. And unfortunately Dave and Eddie are just two different kinds of people to make that happen. Dave also needs to realize he isn't the centerfold/sex machine he once was in the public's eyes. It's ok to go out and karate kick, hip shake, prance and strut because that's just who he is but drop stuff like the lame Jack Daniels masterbatory schtick. The whole "LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE/I FORGOT THE FUCKING WORDS" schtick is fine but noone wants to see Dave simulate masterbating onstage.

    It'll never happen though

Dave will fall into the abyss once again without VH behind him.

If he wants to be a "BIG" rock star aonce again, he needs to swallow his pride a bit and align himself with some well established musicians again.
Someone like Slash, or Vai on guitar
    A Billy Sheehan on bass.
He needs to find some creative songwiters to work with. And try to separate himself from the Van Halen Legacy the he created for himself back in the late 70's-early 80's.
Dave is a very clever lyricist, its his music that is what is keeping him down. He still has his wit and charisma, but the general public grew tired of his circus act. If he can somehow change his act a bit and work with more talented and creative musicians, then maybe he can achieve some decent success once again.

    Good luck to him.

He said the only thing the Van halen Brothers are guilty of is "wasting time". Which he is probably right. (but nobody knows why they are for sure)
But the biggest thing Dave is guilty of is "thinking he was bigger than the band".
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

I for one, hope this isn't the case. Maybe an Eat 'An Smile reunion. What else could save Dave's career (EGO)? A DLR album won't do it. Wouldn't it be cool for dave to get back that band with new videos on the level they had? Just my opinion, but if Dave isn't back in Van Halen, this is his only realistic way back to the top. What do you guys think?

As already mentioned, I don't think an EEAS reunion would be all that more successful than a Dave album with some no-name musicians. If Dave doesn't rejoin the mighty VH, then maybe he should think about putting together a killer band, make a great album, and then tour. Also, if he tours for a new album, I hope he plays 60% VH songs, and 40% solo songs. I'd love to hear "A lil ain't enough" and "Just like paradise" live.

I don't think a full blow DLR and Van Halen reunion could ever happen. The guy practically gets stoned looking at himself in the mirror. Unless DLR can find a way to contain his ego I don't think Ed would ever work with him again. I really don't know, stranger things have happened I suppose.

I think that what Dave needs to do is to hook up with someone who can write great songs, and can play the shit out of the guitar. Brian is a great player, but can he write? I don't know. But he needs to have a great songwriter writing music for him to write lyrics to. He needs a strong personality to tell him when something sucks, and when something is cool. And most of all, he needs to have some backing from a major rock producer, like Ted Templeman, Glen Ballard, etc... who can create some studio magic and really get behind the effort.

As for a video idea, they could focus on the "world traveler" side of Dave - you know, riding the back of an elephant - high-fiving natives, grilling a feral pig, checking out some ethnic chicks, jamming with a tribal band, sampling some local ganga - now that would be cool! Add that in with a top-flight bluesy/world beat style track with excellent musicianship and throw it up onto VH-1 - he'd get some good press and the critics might even take notice in a positive way.

Or he could marry a shrewd businesswoman who could totally reinvent his career...

    "......HEY!.............alright............." -BIG FOOT

" I know what you're thinking: "Do I want to watch Mard? We know that horses were very strong and could actually stop airplanes from flying away. The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? I mean, YAWN!

But if you're willing to sit through this dry sort of historical drama one more time -- or even just this dry historical review -- you will not be disappointed. In fact, some of you might just learn something they didn't teach you in school!-
