now, this is just a question not a rumour!

i know for a fact that Brian May/Queen is a big fan of EVH, but does anybody of u know what VH/DLR think of Queen?

in recent interviews May always repeated how much he'd like to go on tour with Queen again, but they just can't find the right frontman to do the job. could DLR be that person?

remember: just a question, NOT a rumour!!!

    cheers,

Your topic caused me to think of Dave singing "Fat Bottom Girls".

I dont have any idea, nor have I ever heard any member of Van Halen reference Queen in any interview that I can think of.

** Oh , how could I forget, STARFLEET !! Ed jammed with Brian May. Only reference that comes to mind.

It might be kind of cool to see DLR in Queen but I think we'd all like him to get back together with three other guys we know about.

I think as a frontman he'd do a great job, but I don't think Dave could sing the notes that FM carried

I love the song Under Pressure, and I can't see Dave getting his voice to that point. As a matter of fact, I can't think of anyone who could.

I just can't see DLR being the right tool for that job. Somebody like Dennis DeYoung, or Gary would be much better suited.

I don't know if Dave is suited to be the lead singer of anything these days...

But, in reference to Queen, I don't really see there being a "vibe" match there.

Based on... your recent experience in seeing him on tour? Or just your overwhelming preference for Sammy?

That sort of statement is why I think you have Sammy-goggles. You're seeing what you want to see.

Having seen both of them on their recent tours, they both put on a good show.

I love Dave, but his voice is NOT suited for Queen. There are too many Queen songs that require I much higher sounding voice, for Dave to pull off....

Example: Can you picture Dave singing the high notes on the song "Somebody To Love" ?

    I think not.

Not possible. Dave couldn't touch half the notes Mercury could. Dave's main appeals are his showmanship and creativity. I'm not knocking Dave's voice because he has a good one but not to the level of Freddie Mercury. The best bets for Queen are George Michael, Gary Cherone, or Dennis DeYoung.

well, Axl Rose did a terrific version of "we will rock you" and his voice range has nothing in common with FMerc. at all!

a Queen/DLR package wouldn't suck that much, alltough i'm not really into cross-overs.

besides, in the WNCS -Topic a lot of queen songs were mentioned (Fat bottom girls, f.ex.)

    cheers,

Axl Rose? Yuk! He doesn't SING songs, he WHINE'S them.

Dave would be totally out of the question for Queen. Freddie was always my favourite singer, I'm afraid there are very few choices to fill his shoes, if there were to ever be another attempt Queen. Dave simply doesn't have that kind of range. Gary did a decent job covering some Queen tunes, but the one singer I've seen that actually could do a great "Freddie", is George Micheals. Yes, never mind "Wham" or any "homophobic" references, the guy has a great voice. If anyone saw him jamming with Brian May and the boys, you could close your eyes and think you were listening to Freddie!

Besides, Dave belongs in another band!

From the FM Tribute thing I always felt that Gary cherone was really the only viable replacement...

From the Van Halen tribute I would say that Gary Cherone is the only viable option!
