This might be a stupid question & I don’t know if it’s been asked already, but on the BOV1, which would you have preferred?

1 CD ~ Like it is with Dave & Sammy.

    or

2CD’s ~ One with Dave & One with Sammy.

And how should’ve have they sold it?? Sell ‘em both together???? Or buy ‘em separately????

What could they have added to spice up the 2 CD set????

    Just curious.

I prefer 1 CD like it came out because when I commute to school I have an hour train ride both ways down to NYC and I'm normally in the mood to mix things up (i.e. Van Halen w/DLR & Van Halen w/Hagar.) It's more convenient to have everything on the same album. I think it's pretty cool to listen to "Panama" and then have the next track be "WCTBL." I'm glad they did it the way they did. It was also a good idea to add "Humans Being" along with the 2 new tracks. The only way that album can be inconvenient for me is if I'm dumb enough to take the case while leaving the disc in the CD player at home. --- I hate when I do that shit!

Good post, I can see what your saying.

I'm kind of glad that they did it the way they did. Except maybe for the songs they picked but that's a different topic.

I'm a damn sucker, I would've bought the 2 disc set. Gimme Gimme Gimme!

I definitely would've liked to have seen a double CD as we all can name a ton of songs to put on a Best Of Volume 2. I mean, representing 6 (really in this case only 5) Dave albums with 8 songs and 4 Sammy albums with 6 just doesn't cut it. On the one hand, it would've been neat to see one CD all Dave and the other all Sam and have 'em sold seperately and maybe settle some arguments, but it's nice to have a mix, too.

It should have been a double album.

First off, the Roth era songs are mostly really short, so that would have left a lot of cd space that could have been filled up with a few unreleased tracks and maybe even a few live songs.

And second, more disc space would have left more room on the Sammy cd for more of the rock songs to balance all the ballads that were on there. Plus the extra space might have motivated the band to put the finishing touches on Between Us Two, the supposedly amazing song that didn't get done.

No question about it, they could've easily done a 2 disc set. You're right, I would be interested in seeing how Dave vs. Sammy would've sold....my guess~ more Dave would've sold.

I agree Glenn. My biggest beef with BOV1 is that it doesn't represent Sam as the rocker he could be with VH. Sure Humans Being is on there (that's maybe his BEST rocker with VH ever) But there are too many of his ballad songs on BOV1 that allow detractors to say: "See we told ya Sam was cheesy!"

As for "Between Us Two" I'm thinking of breaking into 5150 some night and stealing any demos etc. they have of that one. I remember hearing all this great stuff about that song and it's a damn shame it has yet to surface for the fans to enjoy.

I think a 2-disc album would have been better. One with all the hits with DLR and the other with the Sammy years. I agree with Glenn, they could have fit some extra tracks (unreleased, live) with the amount of space available.

Why not just do what Guns N' Roses did??

Have 2 cds, sold seperatly. (Dave era for one, Sammy for the other.)

    AND....

Sell one cd mixed with the 2. (Like they released... BOV1)

That's what GNR did. And it works.

Assuming that you're talking about the Use Your Illusion albums (and that I'm reading your post correctly), there was no single album available that combined songs from Use Your Illusion 1 and 2.

Yes there is!!!! I own it!!! I believe it was released in 1998, and it is the official, real deal. I don't think it's well known, though. But I own that cd, and I know it's combined. Even if you go to www.cdnow.com, it says "Use Your Illusion". It's the combined cd.

One CD was fine. If we had received more bonus songs (live, edit versions etc..) with two CD arrangement, then it would have been nice.

Even though I liked the 1 CD, I think it would have been neat to have had a 2 CD set. BOVI would have been all DLR and BOVII would have been all Sammy. With 1 CD, I thought some really good songs were missed.

I would have also released them at the same time.

There is a single "Use Your Illusion"... the disc is something like bright neon yellow.

But the BEST format for a BoV1 would have been a double album - one for each singer. However, since they went with a single album, they should have gone with something other than chronological track order. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to hear all Dave or all Sammy on a single car trip, I'd rather hear a little of each without having to do a lot of skipping.

I stand (or sit ) corrected. I never knew about that. Of course, it came out 7 years after the Illusion albums did. I thought you meant that a combined Illusion album was released at the same time as the original ones were.

Even if VH had gone that direction we'd still have to wait another 2 years for the compilation cd.
