An eloquently stated and fascinating theory.

I'm going to move this to our opinions forum, and I invite you to flesh out a few of the points you've made there.

Put some meat in the sandwich, so to speak. Obviously you've put quite a lot of thought into this, It deserves a proper public airing. It's only the proper thing to do.

Looking forward to hearing more on this.

having an opinion that is NOT favorable of Van Halen is NOT permitted here! you are to kiss Van Halen's ass at all times.

    Yawn...

Hey, everyone has their opinion. Hell, I love G n' R!! And I disagree with the fact that one album doesnt make a career. Ask the Sex Pistols about that one! lol..

Appetite for Destruction is a killer record and they never really lived up to that. Although the Use Your Illusion cd's were cool.
But VH was, to me anyways, better, more consistent and much more innovative.
As Zakk Wylde recently said "no one was playing like VH back in 1977". Zakk recalls first hearing VH and said it was "mind-boggling"!
    And that is a fact.
Guns kicked ass but they where very reminiscent of early Aerosmith to me. Then again, Aerosmith was very reminscent of everyone from the Stones to the Yardbirds to NY Dolls.
I dig Slash but he aint in Eddie's league and he will tell you that himself. Everyone from Frank Zappa to Brian May said Eddie reinvented guitar. You wont hear anyone say that about Slash. Tho again, I dig him a lot. Many of his solos remind me of Brian May and Queen.
I saw Guns live and it was up and down, kinda like their career. I saw them on that tour with Metallica in the early 90's and Metallica just spanked the hell outta them. They where a much tighter unit and sounded much better.
Van Halen and Metallica are the 2 best live bands I ever seen.

    I dunno...
When Appetite came out, it was a breath
of fresh air, or rather a breath of stale
cigarette and whiskey soaked air -
but it has not aged well.
    "Welcome..." "Sweet Child", "Paradise
Shitty" have lost all their previous bar
band cache and now reek of old cheese -
    and they are entirely cheesy.
Therefore, GNR gets my vote as
one of the most overrated bands
of all time, ahead of even Nirvana.
    VH vs. GnR?
    No contest.

You know, maybe if GNR hadn't self-destructed due to Axl being a pre-madonna that never felt the need to show up on time for a gig there might be some kind of a comparison there. But, alas, GNR as we knew them is long gone, and only Kentucky Fried Roses is left. When you compare the legacy of both bands (which anymore is all we can do)... sorry, no comparison.
