I was really surprised. My dad and I had just got back from an Edmonton Oilers game and I checked the net really quickly on his computer before heading home. And there was the message on VH.com. All I remember feeling was surprised, because I figured a new album was getting reasonably close to completion.

Going to move this to the Opinions forum for further discussion.

I was surprised at the news, but then I wasn't if that makes sence. I liked III for it's offering of a different VH record, but it also wasn't a CD that stuck around for me very long. I still like the song 'Once' as it is really different. But I will admit my first thought after seeing the statement was that VH was finished because there was no way DLR or Sammy would go back, but let's hope the jury is not out on that yet! They do amazing things in labratories these days, they may grow wings on pigs anyday now!

I heard the rumors before it was official that he was going to leave, but was surprised when it was announced. My first thought was that they were going to get back together with Dave. Now we know that they recorded together in July 2000 but nothing happened after that.

Back in 1997 I was on record as saying that the Van Danniels lineup would not see the new millenium. So the November 5,1999 breakup did not surprise me in the least.

What I would NOT have predicted is that over 2 years later, Van HALEN would still not have their shit together

I was surprised. Van Halen finally seemed to have found something that was comfortable for them. The album flopped, but the tour was pretty good. That changed my opinion about having Gary in the band. I went from being wholely negative to somewhat curious and hopeful.

I thought "Well that makes sense".

Van Halen is an "Under the Radar" band-politically speaking, and Gary thinks he's Bono.Daniels was trying to make VH into U2( just my opinion) wich showed how little he knew about the band and rock music in general.

You know, I can't name any songs of VHIII.

At first, I had mixed emotions. I was happy he was gone because it meant that either Dave or Sammy would be coming back. Yet, I was frustrated as a fan because of the constant lead singer changes. I also thought that Gary did a pretty good job with the lousy cards he was dealt.

I was very happy and thought that it signaled the return of Roth. Especially since he was touring and doing well.

    Now who the hell knows.....

I was as happy as I was in 96' when I heard Dave was back recording with them.

I was ecstatic. I was hoping that the proper Van Halen line-up would be together soon. Well, they indeed got together, but something (egos probably) ruined. I am still hopeful that they will sort it all out.

Kicking Gary out (or him leaving) was the right thing to do.

My reaction had several little thoughts contained within, but they all hit me at the same time:

    1)"Oh Christ, not again...."

2)"I KNEW they shoulda never let Sammy go."

3)"Oh God, PLEASE don't let them get Dave back."

4)"Well, so much for the next record."

I was shocked when I first found out, but I wasn't really 'surprised'. Somehow, deep down, I knew it was going to happen; I just didn't expect him to be out quite that soon.

I was thrilled, but would never have guessed we would be waiting this long for a new album. I would have thought if not a new album in the works, lets see a box set of DLR unreleased material which is already out there in one form or another, but lets clean it up some and perhaps the unreleased tid bits off the Sammy albums as well as this Gary fronted LP. Hey one can hope!!
I liked AC/DC's idea of to hell with a greatest hits, lets release a box set of rare Bon Scott stuff for the fans. Pity VH can't do the same.
