personally..... I would pick going to see dave & steve (easb)- over going to see sammy and ed. I dont think there are any comparisons. daves band at that time kept the classic VH alive as sammy and ed at the time just bored me to death.

what one would you guys pick?

the energy and bigtime concert was alive with eas, 5150....blah! although i like the album the shows sucked! boring.

Tough call. I had tickets to see Dave on the EEAS tour, but couldn't go, which I regret to this day. But my brother told me it was great. The LWAN video is really cool, so that is also a show I wish I'd seen. I guess if I'm forced to pick, I'd go with the Dave show.

I think I'd rather see 3/4th's of Van Halen rather than 1/4th. I guess that answers the question.

you gota admit, steve vai and the rest of the band filled the spots quite well! i went to both and i thought the 5150 was a bore, no energy onstage.

OK Jonathan, I'd rather see Van Halen in 86 then Roth solo in 86. Vai was always an Eddie wannabe. I'd rather see the originator, not the imitator.

I don't hear that much EVH in Vai - he was transcribing stuff for Zappa, he plays much more technical, modal stuff than Eddie who wings it from the heart. But for the most part I find Vai incredibly boring except for the two DLR albums. I saw Van Hagar so I guess I'll take Dave the originator and the EEAS band.

Why the hell would you ever go to "Van Hagar" concert after 1985??? Don't let the some other links members catch wind of that. They'll rip ya a new one.
