He sucks live though and I think his voice is totally going now, he's lost a lot of the power and tone he used to have. Sad.

Again, this is better suited for Opinions, going there now.

cornell is currently busy disgracing what remains of rage against the machine- but if he wasn't doing that -i would agree with you TOTALLY!

what a perfect match for VH? i couldn't think of a more dissappointing way to end their sickening and disgusting drama, and finally desocrate and destroy any remnance of what WAS the greatest rock band ever- that is definitely the direction VH is going, so why not just blow them off the map completely? i'm all for it... fuck em'

it would fit in well with the grunge renaissance lately, too.... i know i sure can't get enough grunge! anymore piece of shit nirvana songs left over that we can release? eddie vedder sounds more refined with album they release- that guy fuckin' rocks now, huh? and chris cornell? i know i can never get enough of that whiney, screechy, painful attempt at "singing" ...makes me sick just thinking about it...

i sure didn't suffer enough with that CRAP through my high school years- i need another injection of it now... so much for progress...

i think you chris cornell lovers should start your own site... if i never saw his name or heard his shit, wannabe voice EVER again- i would feel a lot better...

BUT, just my opinion... (this is the opinions section, right?)

Did anyone see the Mtv thing last week with Audio shit. The band was OK, but Cornell looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. He looked great, but sounded completely lifeless. No energy or emotion.....not what VH needs!

Cornell and Van Halen? Interesting combo. Don't know if it would have worked live, especially with the old tunes.

Did you catch the half hour show of Audioslave live? I too had the same criticism of Cornell when he was with Soundgarden. When I caught that show I was quite happily surprised with how he carried himself and how faithfully he reproduced his album performance with his new bandmates. Just goes to show what the right material can do.

As for the topic, sonically C.C. would be great with VH. I'm not quite sure how well he would fit with Mikey vocally, and I'm not sure if lyrically these people would have the basis to relate to each other. If Ed did do that multiple lead singer album I would love to Chris on a song.

Give me a break! The last thing Van Halen needs is another singer in the Sammy/Gary mode. On Superunknown, Cornell sounds so much like Sammy, you would think he was ghosting. Even on Black Hole Sun, the rare non-screeched Cornell track, he can't resist the ear-grating "Black Hole Sun" screaming at the fade out.

If Van Halen sin't going to go with Roth, they need to find a baritone.

The day of the screeching singer is over! If Van Halen want to put out another dud, they'll go get another Sammy clone!

Wow, I don't know where that "anti-Cornell" vibe is coming from suddenly.
If you're a Sammy fan, then there is some similarity with your hero, so you should be happy vocally. If you're a DLR fan, show a bit of respect for a guy who's a much better singer than DLR (at least these days). I'm not saying he's a better performer, but better singer, yes.

I think his voice holds pretty well live.

I agree that Chris has lost a bit of his range; I've got the new Audioslave CD and you can tell this on some of the songs, but damn he's still better than 3/4 of the singers out there!
Don't really think he'd be a good fit with VH though, I think there's to much of a difference in musical styles involved. Chris' and VH's roots are like night and day, just can't see how that would work.

I'm still at a loss as to why they haven't got Ralph from the Punks. He sings his ass off, can "out Dave" Dave himself, can most likely sing Hagar's stuff well and if given half a chance could probably do some cool stuff of his own. He's a perfect fit and can give us and the band what neither Roth nor Hagar can
