I've been using my Boss SD-1 for years now and this is first time I've ever thought of looking for another overdrive pedal. I've heard that the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive is a good pedal but really haven't heard any details. I'm basically looking for something with a little more punch than the SD-1 so I can get more dist. out of my Marshall. My guitars are strat style with humbuckers and I also own two Wolfgangs. Just curious as to whether the Sparkle Drive pedal can overdrive my amp more than an SD-1 or Tubescreamer would.

The Sparkle Drive is really more of a signal boost than an OD.

It does drive your signal, but I think the SOD has more gain in it. The Sparkle is great for boosting what you already have and putting a bit if hair on it. It doesn't really color your tone, which is why it's so popular.

They work great, but if I were you, I'd try one with your setup before you buy it.

Another option in the Tube Screamer with an 808 mod in it.

Have you checked out any of AnalogMan's pedals? I'm about ready to whip out the plastic for the TS9/808 with the Silver mod (better bass & mid response... KILLER reviews) to go with my shiny new Fender Tone Master head. The Tone Master by itself has sounds like GOD and has balls for DAYS (especially after my main man Roy at Abell Amp Repair talked me into replacing the stock Sovteks with MUCH better sounding Svetlanas! THANK YOU, ROY!), but I want to add something that will give me more options with my clean channel, as well as adding some footswitchable versatility to the lead channel. Our other guitarist also has an identical Tone Master 1/2 stack with a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde pedal which is also based on the TS808 and sounds killer, but I want something a little different. So far the Analog Man TS9/808 sounds like a winner, but I've also heard great things about the Bixonic Expandora and the Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor.

Anybody here ever try any of these pedals? I'd really appreciate the input!

Check out all the tone-whore modded goodies over at AnalogMan's site: analogman

I love the sparkle drive pedal. I tried it after reading some of Homeunits and others positive postings about it on here. It replaced a tubescreamer reissue I have in my loop. Like he said its not made to pile on gain to your sound. I use it to give a cleaner boost to my sound for leads and/or to push my distortion channel of my amp. I like how you can dial in the amount of clean sound in addition to the gain. ANywho, I recommend at least a try.
