If you have, then you know I'm talking about the cute little digital 8-track unit that stores to ZIP disk and has a ton of "guitar goodies" on board...

What do think of it? As a recorder primarily, but also how are the guitar tones and amp models? How are the effects?

I'm interested in getting one of these to do my home projects on... any help here?

I sell them. I wouldn't cut an album on one, but it IS very cool for the price. Basically, if I were in a fully functional band, it would be worth having each band member owning one to put their own various ideas down while on tour or something. But to record music to release or give to someone as a demo? I wouldn't. But I definately recommend one to someone who wants something very easy to use, and also digital.

My dad has one, but I haven't used or heard it yet. I would think that they would be perfect for doing demos though

I've had one for about a year. I mainly use it for demos and it does a very good job of it. I think it's fairly unbeatable for the price. I hear there may be a model coming out with a built in CD burner. That would be nice. I had to tweak the guitar sounds a bit. The presets sounded kinda fuzzy to me. I've since pruchased a POD and pretty much use it for my guitar sounds. Overall, I'm quite happy with it.

    Thanks for the input, people!

Looks like I'll be picking up one of these bad boys tonight. I'll let you all know how I do with it! It's just for my personal fun - if something turned out REALLY well maybe I'd make copies for others to keep... but really I'm interested in the simplicity and the cool features for amateur guitarists like myself. (I'm really a drummer, so I'll be using it to record drums as soon as I get a house!) Until now, I've been using a Yamaha MT120 cassette 4-track with minimal effects, which has done me quite well over the years. But the guitar tone usually sucks pretty bad, trying to run "direct" from amp outputs. I'm hoping with the Boss unit I'll be able to just plug in and get sounds that at least I can live with, and less overall "hiss" and noise than the cassette 4-track. We'll see...
