Which pickup did Eddie put in his Franky: the PAF, PAF Classic, or PAF Pro??? And I know it was custom wound, but which one was it?

One more thing, what pickups are in the Wolfgangs? I know it was the 'Tone Zone' for the Music Mans, but did Eddie use the same thing for the Wolfgangs?

Hey B, waz up man? Uhm, I dunno really what he used on both guitars but I'm proud to say that I have used a Paf Pro before on my Kramer.

It's a trip cause now I realize that at the time conciously I was going for a vintage sound n' all being a Seattle Grunge fannatic.

Subconciously, if I'm right about it was a PAF Pro, then that would mean that I had similar ear involvment being a VH fan n' all. Lol ...(doesn't make sense but really it does)

    Kick-ass topic B ...

Eyes is right. His first pickup was the one he took out his old ES-335 and rewound to his own specs. He played the 335 at first, but Roth gave him a hard time, telling him it looked too much like a country guitar, not a rock and roll instrument, so he removed the pickup and used that.
Afterwards he was working on a pickup design with Dimarzio I believe, which became known as the custom-custom. From what I'm told this is the pickup that comes closest to capturing his original sound, but there are other variables to consider like wood, and pickup placement, as well as not having Ed's fingers.
I prefer the dimarzio paf pro's. They've got a great tonal range, but I've found they don't sound as good in a basswood body as they do in an ash or alder body

actually i think he s talking about the white humbucker ed had in the frankie during the 1980 invasion tour....heres what i read from a 1980 interveiew its a dimarzio(super distortion?) that eddie replaced the dimarzio magnet with a paf magnet then hand wound it to his own specs....either way it was a custom pick up.

I've tried tone zone pickups, and they don't sound like my music man pickups.

According to a tech I called at Seymour Duncan , he used an Alnico II for the neck , and a Custom Custom for the bridge . That was when he was working on his Peavey prototype . He used custom made Dimarzio's in his Musicman .

Eddie Italian , the Peavey has Peavey pickups . Methinks that they are copied from his Wolfgang prototype which had a SD Alnico II in the neck position and a SD Custom Custom for the bridge position ... just a hunch .

Oh my fucking gawd Tribb!!! I need one of those cause I only use one for my bridge position. I have a Washburn Nuno Bettencourt model guitar(cheapy) that have been waiting to put in a new pick up too it.

Wolfy's would make me cry(happy), if I were to hear it in my axe. Now the trick question is? How much? $$$ (jonesin5150@hotmail.com)

Eyes, they were taken out as a pair, and that's the way they have to be sold. If you're interested in the pair email me privately and we can talk about price.
