Hi guys. I've got a question. Is anyone familiar with the ebow. I've heard that it's great for swelling chords and notes without using your volume control. Someone told me I could use it for Cathedral without burning out my volume control as well. For anyone that has used one, can you play alternate strings and do string skipping with it?
I've never used one, but it seems like a cool little device, and I'd like to get some info from someone who knows how to use one before I invest. Thanks

I have a little experience with an e-bow. And if you are planning to get one make sure you have time to master it!! It takes a while to get used to using it in a usable fashion. It's like learning a whole new style of guitar. As far as doing Cathedral... I see no way that this is possible consdering how you have to get the ebow to work. I don't know though maybe I just don't have enough experience with them. But the E-bow part to Spanked is really easy to play though!!!

Thanks ian. That's a start. Maybe I'd better head over to the music store tomorrow and check one out. I've heard they use a magnet or something like that.

The Ebow is not what you want to use for Cathedral. In fact, it really isn't too easy to master. It works very well for linear stuff like the intor to Spanked. I've found that the best use is for endless sustain. . the swelling into notes doesn't work all that well. And, you can't swell chords or multiple strings. The way the Ebow works, is by positioning it over single strings. Good Luck!
