I'm selling my Marshall DSL401 on e-Bay, as my Reverend Hellhound is coming this week.
If I get $500 for it, that opens up some gear possibilities. I've narrowed it down:
-an older phenolic topped Reverend(a place in Connecticut has about 50 in stock), $579 to $670 depending on model.
-a Paisley Telecaster(only available from Musician's Friend), $489.
-a Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Strat, $538.
-an Ivory Wolfgang Special(brand new), $550-600(I could talk the guy down from the $599 he's asking for it).
I'm leaning towards the Wolfgang, so I have questions:
Are the Specials still made in the USA?
Is the quality as good as in 1998(when I owned one)?
Any technical problems that consistently pop up?
Thanks for your help, folks!

Yeah, they're still U.S. made. I like my Special FT better than my standard. And I just got it 5mths ago.

I've read a few post where people said that the D-tuna can scratch the finish of a Special because it's a flat top (not alot of clearance between the two, as opposed to the arched top Standard).

The special's a solid basswood guitar, which is soft wood, with a hard finishing coat, but it is a stage instrument. Most stage guitars will take their share of bumps and bruises and it doesn't take away from their playability.
Look at Rol's guitars. He builds some of them to look like they've fallen out of 3rd story windows, but I hear they're built like tanks.
You can always wrap a thin peice of felt around the knob on the d-tuna if you're worried, but since it moves back to front, rather than up and down, I don't think it would be a problem.
I had one on my EVH for years with no problem, and now on my EVH copy, and still haven't scuffed it with the Dtuna. It's got bumps from other things, but not the Dtuna.
If you get a special, and it's a good, problem free one, just play the hell out of it.

Sorry to get off topic, but what kind of EVH copy do you use?

No problem. A guitar a luthier here in town built it for me. It looks like an EVH, but has a lot more versatility, and allows me to keep my EVH's in storage.
I think Homeunit's the only one that's seen it.

I like the look sound and feel of the Special more! I think it is closest to Ed's Frankenstrat!
God Speaks to us through the Bible. If He could play the guitar, he'd play it through Eddie Van Halen.

i love my special, it just feels so good in my hands.
so keep talking about it, it makes me feel good that there are people who know what they're talking about (because i sure don't) saying good things about it.
