What's the easiest VH song to play? So far I've learned "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" and "Panama" minus the solos and they're pretty easy. What else would be good for a beginner like me?

Ain't talkin bout love has a easy solo in it. Another one that has a easy solo is "Love Walks In". "Little Dreamer" is another one. "Unchanined and So this is love", are fairly easy to jam to. "When it's love", "Can't Stop Loving You," and "Black and Blue" are fairly easy also.

But the most easy song to play from the VH Albums is........**DRUM ROLL** "HOT FOR TEACHER"........NOT!!!! I've tried this song many times and still can't get it. Ed must have had a hit of Cocain before he recoreded this song. The rhytmn and lead in this song is brilliant.

You need good touch on "Unchained" especially for the solo I think.

"You Really Got Me" is pretty easy, and so is "Dance The Night Away" if you don't worry about the tapped harmonics.

Gotta be Runnin' With the Devil, because I can play almost all of it, including the solos. And I'm the worst guitarist alive.

It's hard to say which Van Halen song is the "easiest" because despite the fact that "Runnin' with the Devil" is easy in theory and note-wise, you need good feel for it. "Jamie's Cryin'" is another one that seems easy when you think about the simplistic notes etc. but to play it with the right feel and attitude is the hard part.

As for "Hot for Teacher" goes, that song took me about 3 years to get down and these days i can play it exactly like the album. I can even do the intro in my sleep. In fact, i play it faster sometimes than it should be. If you keep at it long enough and figure out the little nuances and tricks, you'll be able to play any Van Halen song given you put in enough time and effort.

You have to be a good player to make RWTD sound good I agree. The solo notes may be easy, but Eddie plays them so tastefully, and that's where the skill comes in.

Hot For Teacher's an easy song cause it uses the same progression over and over, but Runnin with the Devil is probably the easiest song they've done. Also, You Really Got Me is a piece of cake, as well as Unchained and On Fire. Hang'em High is pretty easy too and good for hand co-ordination.
The song that really fucked me up was All Fired Up (A.F.U)
That mother took me almost 2 weeks to get smooth cause of the way he switches patterns off time. It's one of the most fun songs to play though.

I agree, Hot For Teacher is easy, other than the solo, which is hard to play note for note. Runnin' With The Devil is really easy. You Really Got Me is simple. On Fire is pretty easy once you get the solo down. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love isn't that hard. Atomic Punk is pretty easy, and so is Little Dreamer. From VH2...DTNA, SGMAD, Outta Love Again, and Women In Love aren't too hard. Fools and Everybody Wants Some are some others. I also agree that Hang 'Em High is fairly easy, although it's pretty hard sometimes to get the intro to sound right. From the Hagar years, Best Of Both Worlds is easy. Oh yeah, and the live, jam version for Pleasure Dome is a good one.

I'd have to say Runnin' is the easiest. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love is not far behind. I'll tell you what was difficult for me was the intro to Mean Street. That took me a while to nail

RWTD and ATBL are easy. Little Dreamer is, but the solo is took a little work. Unchained is real easy. I'm learning Love Walks In now and it seems simple.

If you geniuses think these songs are so easy then why are you always putting this guy on a pedestal? Afterall, you're listing about 10 songs that are supposedly really "easy." If everything does is so easy then what's so great about this asshole anyway?

How dificult a song is able to play does not make that song good axe. Not to may VH somngs are that easy, Axe, and Ed is the innovater of the music. Yngwie, he plays difficult music, doesn't have a songwriting bone in his body, but plays difficult music, doesn't make him any better than EVH. Difficulty is not greatness.

AxeSlinger, did you shit the bed this morning? Why the attitude?
NoaverageJoe was asking a simple question about which songs might be within his range of learning at the moment. Since most of the people who frequent this room are guitar players, yourself included, we gave him our opinions about songs he might want to try that are fairly easy, while just talking songs in general as well. I noticed you did the same in your first post without stickin an arrow into Ed's back.
Nobody's putting him up on a pedestal, just picking a few of the large no. of songs he's written that we thought Noav.Joe might find "easier" to do.
I'm sure all of us play other music besides Van Halen, but Joe was asking specifically about VH.
Like Sleepless says, Ed's an innovator, and started a trend that allowed guys like just about every well known rock player to shine today. If Ed hadn't given the world his ideas
and completely different way of playing and sounding we'd all probably still be doing cheap ripoffs of Purple Haze.
