holyfuk, never noticed this b4 checking out ebay....

the white wolf on peaveys sites says basswood body, the black one basswood and or maple/basswood, all the others maple/basswood combinations.

the white one is basswood only? wow, this would explain the different sound characteristics of the guitar played in the store.

i'm not sure if theres anything to discuss here, i just find the variance odd (but cool, i love the idea of being able to buy a basswood only body 'caus the sounds is great!) for a high priced model.

now i haveto get a black and white one too.

Yes, the Ivory and Black solid colors are all basswood. As far as I know, the only solid color with a maple top is the Goldtop.

To clarify futher: The Black and Ivory are Basswood. The Goldtop and Seafoam Green are Basswood with a maple cap. There was an error on Peavey's site which was cleared up by AJ at Peavey last week on the Peavey Forums.

I have a white Wolfgang and a sunburst Wolfgang, and a black Wolfgang, all standards. The White one and the Sunburst with the maple top sound identical. I compared them through my brothers VHT halfstack and my 5150 halfstack, clean and distorted, to really hear the bridge pick-up. They sound the same. I thought the maple top was supposed to change the tone. That is the idea but in this instance it makes no difference.
The black one sounds different though. So even though you have two guitars made the same way they usually sound different. Wood is funny like that.

Shortly after my comparision the specials came out. I had a friend managing the local Peavey store so we tried all three through a Mesa Boogie duel rectifier. A white special, black standard and red standard with a maple top. They all sounded the same. Just so you know I have been playing guitar for 11 years and am a student of the EVH "Brown Sound" My brother at the time of our test was attending Berklee College of Music for guitar. So when we both hear the same things, it's gotta be (almost) true!=)
VH III is Ed's solo album. So everybody who keeps saying they wish he'd do one needs to stfu and listen to III. Then stfu again.
