Any of you bad boys tried one of these? I remember the stink that was raised about them when they came out, but haven't heard or seen them since.
What do you guys think of them?

Can a 'bad girl' comment on this or is it just for
boys?

I tried the XXX out a bunch of times and it's a damn nice amp for the price. It seems to be selling fairly well too. My Peavey dealer, who also deals Mesa Boogies, said he'd recommend the
XXX over the Mesa Recto's in the value, and gasp,
quality department!!!! Said he has more trouble with the Mesa amps straight out of the box than Peavey. He also said he can't keep the XXX in stock. I really like the amp. When the Combo version comes out next summer, hopefully I'll have the money to get one. I think Peavey does much better in the amp department, than guitars, although I LOVE my Wolfgangs. The Triple XXX rocks. Give one a try.

I've heard some good things about the XXX too, but haven't had the chance to try one. It's only a matter of time.

The only complaints I've heard about it were about the particle board casing that the head is in. But as far as sound, everyone is loving this thing. All I hear is three channel recto at half the price. Rectos aren't really my thing, but if they were I'd definitely give the XXX a try before dropping a small fortune on a recto.

My guitarist just bought BOTH the XXX & a Randal Warhead. We tested both out & the XXX SMOKES the Randal!(needless to say, the Randel went back to Manny's). I LOVE the tone he's getting out of the XXX! And, yes, It's like a 3 channel Recto for 1/2 the price

So it's a totally different animal, when compared to the 5150, right? No buzz, just loads of grunt?

I own a Marshall and a Triple Rectifier so don't tell me about tone. Peavey is known for making junk equipment. Nothing I've ever tried by them has been any good. I really wonder how much money Tony MacAlpine was paid and Eddie is paid to "say" they use Peavey amps. Peavey amps sound like crap in my opinion. If I had my way, that statement wouldn't be an opinion and would be a fact written in stone and printed in Encyclopedia Britanica.

Pretty strong statement there!
Well, I would have to disagree. I love my Wolfgang Standard. IT feels great and sound geat too. But I have to agree about the 5150 Combo. I haven't been able to get a really good tone out of it yet.
I'm still working on it.
The thing is, I would have already found a handfull of good settings if I had a recto in the house...
I'm sooo glad I don't own that 5150 right now!

Actually, haveing been around music all my life & Peavey users (I have 2 older brothers that have been in bands since I was a baby) and very good friends with a professional sound engineer, I can give you MY spin on Peavey sound equipment;
Front line Peavey (sound systems, mixing boards, speakers etc) have a notorious reputation for being substandard. but BACKLINE (amps, cabs, combo's) have a great reputation! The thing to remember is that what YOU like may NOT be what I like, and visa versa. Personally, I have NEVER played through a Marshall, stack or combo, that I would own! Recto's are sweet as hell.. also WAY to much $! The Peavey amps of the last 10 years or so have been AWESOME tone machines! But, thats just one mans opinion... and WIDE open to interpretation. I'm SURE your sound kicks ass, because it sounds like you know what your talking about & I'm sure youve shaped your tone to what rocks your world. So have I, & Peavey works like a charm for me.
PLAY ON!

Simmer down now! I was making a joke. I wasn't trying to "tell you about tone". Tone is subjective, you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of course you're gonna think your Marshall and Recto sound better than my 5150 and my MARSHALL(thats right people I just bought a 1971 50 watt Super Lead ), its your amp with your heart and soul pumping through it. Don't take it serious because I was just joking with ya, plus you kind left it wide open for a wise crack with that first post.
