The builders claim that it nails the VH1 guitar sound. Tons of sound clips available at the site.
I'm not saying they nail the tone, but they do come close, and it sounds great.

They're selling these for $95, for a hand-built, true-bypass pedal. Very good price. When they initially put up the site, the pedal was $75 including a free t-shirt. I ordered one at that price, and when I get it I'll be sure to post a review.

Wow, the sound clips are nice. The clip where he plays it through the Carvin and plays "Feel Your Love Tonight" is pretty close. Either way a hand built true bypass overdrive box with a good crunch and boost capabilities for less than 100 bucks is a good deal. I'll probably pick one up, I wish I could have gotten 1 of the first ten, looks like they're gonna be collectors pieces.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but based on the clips it sounds pretty cold and overly distorted with poor definition. There's no warmth to the notes and it's hard to tell the single notes apart.
The passages that were played on it sound like they're coming from a solid state amp. Kind of tinny. Getting gain isn't hard. Any number of amps or pedals will do that. Also, the amp emulations they were going for didn't sound anywhere close to the real thing in a no. of cases, and only in the ballpark on others.
If I had to rate this out of 10, I'd give it a 3.
    180. US for this pedal? Have fun.

i heard about this pedal a few months back, listened to a few clips. Heard some reviews from the HC boards, wasn't impressed and now that they raised the price a month or so ago, forget it.

I've had my Mr. Ed for a couple months now. It does that gained-out Marshall tone real well-- of course, I'm running it into the clean channel of a Carvin Legacy, which has EL34s and Celestion Vintage 30s, and is very Marshally to start with. I can get some decent Ed tones, but it doesn't nail his tone perfectly-- hell, what does?

It's a great pedal for the $75 I paid for it. I don't think it's worth $180. A couple nice features: it is true bypass, and the pedal is very responsive to picking dynamics. Plus it cleans up when you roll back the volume knob, just like a tube amp.

don't forget ed plays through the crappiest of all crappy sounding amps, 5150, and still makes it sound like its amazing.

I hear ya on the 5150's. I got one when they first came out and they don't sound too hot unless you turn them up REAL LOUD, at least mine anyway. The best sound I ever got was when we played a friend's backyard party and could turn up as loud as we wanted. I cranked mine up to around eight, backed off the preamp drive and turned the presence to zero. Sounded pretty good. We did "Unchained" and the tone was pretty close to Eddie's on that live video of Unchained from 81', you know not super distorted, but big and clear. But the clean channel doesn't sound to hot and no reverb either. No versatility. It's kinda like Eddie designed them for himself and noone else. Anyone ever use a THD Hotplate with a 5150?

    *nod* agreed.

nope not played that, but i found a great little 100 watt type amp by Traynor.

I forget the model number but it has 2 clean and one overdrive channel and you can mix all 3 live. all tube. the coolest thing that i have seen yet on any amp (i'm sure a few others have this) is that the main overdrive knob is controlled by a main volume knob (final volume output). i don't know what the technical terms for these features are, but basically you can do exactly what you did, crank the overdrive channel all the way up and put the volume way down and get that awsome 'brownish' sound at normal levels.

of course it's always close, never perfect. the clean channels are cool too, but i much preffer marshal clean channels on some of their 100 watt units, especially when the units get older. perhaps one day i will mix a few of the wet and dry amp types together.

anyway, try a Traynor if you get a chance and decide for your self.
