    hey guys im putting a duncan jb pickup in my used flip flop pink kramer i just bought....the pickup is going right to the volume knob and thats it(are you surprised?)..now question: the black wire is the hot one right? now which ones get soldered to the volume pot and which ones get tied together and taped?

    The black isn't necessarily the hot. What are the other colors, and do you have an ohm meter?

    no ohm meter...has black ,red,white,and green...it says on the wiring diagram that hot is black....but there no diagram for just to the volume....only les paul and series parelell crap....

    Rick, you want the pickup coils to run in series I guess so it runs hotter for more gain, but since all wiring colors are different on different pickups, without an ohm meter it's hard to tell. If there's anyone out there with a jb maybe you could have a look and let Rick know. Otherwise, I have to go over to the music store tomorrow anyway, so I'll check with the tech there to get the colors that separate the coils, and get back to you tomorrow. The wiring is really very simple once you've got the right 2 wires connected. Are you running a tone knob as well, or just straight volume like Ed?

    Red and white are soldered and taped together.

    Green is the ground

    Black is hot-solder to the pot

    True for all Seymour Duncans.

    thats how i soldered it...it is just to the volume pot like ed s set up...ill string it up and see what happens.

    ok i got sound out of the pick up but theres no taper on the volume pot it doesnt turn off the volume is at one level...what part did i solder wrong?
