I have a Roland JC-120 guitar amp. I love it, because it's really loud and extremely bright sounding. However, (like I've asked about before) I'm trying to get tube sound out of a solid-state amp. Obviously, I won't get TRUE tube sound from it.

However, I'm wondering if I should switch to a high-end tube distortion pedal to give my sound a bit of a punch.

    Any recommendations?

I haven`t tried these pedals myself but I`ve heard good things about the Ibanez Tubescreamer reissue and the Reverend Drivetrain . Try to purchase a pedal from a company that will let you return it for a refund if don`t like it

The Tube Screamer is a solid state pedal. It's for pushing a tube amp's preamp. section, not for making a solid-state amp sound like a tube model.

Shifting gears......I've heard nothing but good things about Mesa's V-Twin preamp. I've also observed that Soldano makes a tube preamp/pedal. I'd love to try it. I like that sound, but only enough to use once a week or so, and certainly not enough to drop $1000 on a head.

I looked up that Soldano pedal and it looks really kick-ass!

Just by the name "Soldano", I'd be willing to give it a shot!

    Here's the info on MusiciansFriend.com:

This may be the direction I go in.

Soldano makes some kick ass amps, head on over to harmony central and see if there's a review on that Soldano pedal.

Well, I just purchased the Soldano GTO distortion pedal. I'll be sure to give my review of how it sounds. I'm also gonna be purchasing a Midiverb 4, which I'm going to run it through. I hope it sounds as good as I think it will.

I'm a synth player at heart and am only 2 years into my guitar playing. It's fun to use my experience in sound effects from synths and applying it to the guitar.

Any other synth players out there?
