quick question for you guys...i'm working on rebuilding an old pos memphis guitar i've had for a while. the body's in good shape, but i think it's made of plywood. my question is, would it be a good idea to put a floyd rose or other similar bridge in it or do you think it will just eventuall rip out of the wood. any advice would be most appreciated..thanks

putting a $180 Floyd on a $20 guitar will not get you a $200 guitar...

no, but i'm not expecting it to...if i were going to put one on it's probably be a cheap copy or a used one...it has a strat like bridge on it now but it's just about shot...besides i'm trying to convert it from righty to lefty so that wouldn't work too well. i'm thinking if the trem wouldn't work i may just rig a stop tailpiece setup and use it that way.

i just want to try my hand at customizing and seeing what i can do with the guitar, and i figured it's better to start with a $30 guitar that's just collecting dust than a $300 guitar that's fine as it is...if it works, cool..if it dosen't, oh well...

There was a pic here of Ed's 5150, and the wood on that was ripping out at the pivot screws. I didn't really notice until Rol pointed it out. So, IMHO go for it, and if the trem rips the wood out (Which truly is unlikely at least in the beginning), get a better body and put the Floyd in that. And if it works, you have a nice mod, and saved a few bucks as well as learned about the installation

The best way to learn is by experimentation.
