I found this item on Ebay. Not sure if Eddie actually ever had a "oversized" headstock on the 5150 or not. Check out the link and see what ya think.

I dunno TT. I've never seen him with a headstock that big. It looks like a real hockey stick.
He's got a high starting bid for the neck too.
I guess right now there are guys pouring over old VH magazines to see if they can spot that type of headstock. If it gets no bids you'll know that it wasn't one he used.
Rols, what do you think?

The headstock on Eddie's 5150 Kramer was quite a bit larger than the stock Kramer bananna headstock, and larger than the Warmoth KWS headstock. I don't know whether or not if this ebay one is "exactly" the same as Ed's(Rol is the expert on the Kramer 5150 parts) but its certainly closer to Ed's than the Warmoth KWS or standard Kramers.

I don't know for sure, I'm just speculating... In that old Kramer ad with the guitar that basically looks like a modernized Kramer version of the frankenstein, Ed has got a HUGE headstock on that guitar. It's visibly bigger than a stock Kramer neck. It actually looks like it's traced from a real hockey stick or something.

Rols, what do you think?
First off this meanstreet guy is the one that sold a $1000 5150 with 1\2 " action on the 12th fret and the guy he sold it to had to send it to me to fix, the guy knows absolulty nothing about EVH's guitars other than they were red white and black striped,
The peghead shown in that pic is not anything that was on the 5150, the real 5150 peghead is the same basic size as warmoths KWS only longer,
that thing in that picture is abnormally larger than anything I know of EVH ever playing.
If anyone wants a neck go to www.greggrogersguitars.com they will have them soon and if you want it painted like the 510 or any other of Eds I'll do it for $50 plus shipping
and it will be correct.
later,
Rol.

HI,

I think your seeing things
the Kramer Ad franky (as it's known as) has basically the same peghead as Eds 5150, the only difference is that it's slightly more curved across the top. goto these places to look:
http://www.geocities.com/wolfront/edsneck.html
http://www.geocities.com/wolfront/adfrank.html
and this is just for giggles look at the lovely finish work
http://www.geocities.com/wolfront/close5150.html

BTW in the future my website will have the most detailed explanations of each of Eds guitars and their history, I will try to be as accurate as possible, and try to detail each stage of each guitar, the first one will be the franky, each different neck pickup pickguard etc etc, I will have all the pics shortly, myself and a freind who knows way more than I (the guy who taught me all of this) will be working on it, hopefully it will be up soon.

Hey, the pegheads that Ed used are not really that big at all they just look that way cause he is tiny, you'll see when you get your 1984 to review.

thats funny rol....just curious, are you gonna stay with GR guitars or use the 84RI for your guitars? and how do the kits compare physically and accurately to the 84RI (cuz i know you helped them both)

it depends, I like building the whole thing, but if someone wants the 84' painted and reliced I'll do it, matter of fact my own will probably be an 84' cause it takes less time, I'll use whatever the buyer wants but given a choice I'll do the kit.
the both should be right there as far as how close to the real thing they are.
