This has proably been done many times, but what pickups does everyone like/use.

I have Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge, and DImarzio Air Norton in the neck.

Personally, I love the norton. I solo predominatly on the neck pickup, which is different from alot of people, but the tones is sooo soft and smooth.

The tone zone is ok, I liked it alot when I first put it in, but everyday I am starting to dislike it more, i might end up putting a different pickup in the bridge, any suggestions from the dimarzio line???

Use this site's search engine, and you'll find an abundance of info.

If you must have DiMarzio, you might want to try the Air Zone, or call DiMarzio and beg their people to custom wind you a Tone Zone to sound like the one in the Axis. It can be done...I've seen it over on Harmony Central.

My 2 cents would be to try Duncans. I would investigate:

Custom Custom
Custom 5

If you're feeling like something completely different, you can go for a slightly hotter Seth Lover vibe with their Custom Shop EVH pickup, but be warned, the output isn't going to be as pushy as what you're used to, so you'll have to tweak your amp.

I have Duncans in two guitars:
Custom 5 in a modified Charvel
Just dropped a Duncan '59 in my homegrown Frankenstrat.

I used to have a Strat that I put an EMG 81 in. It was too bright, way hot for a pickup... I think Metallica uses the 81...

Anyway, I eventually swapped out the single coils in the middle and neck for EMG Selects. I didn't really uses them anyway. Now that was a wiring project! Figuring the best way to get the passive with active wired was a bitch. I ended up wiring a pre-amp under the pickguard and needed to do some additional routing to make room for the bastardized configuration

You can't go wrong with Duncans
Everything else I own is stock, but the Duncans are on my two main guitars anyway.

In my custom mahogany blend guitar I have 2 Seths and an old duncan single.

In my swamp ash guitar I have a custom custom in the bridge and a PAF in the neck.

I've found that p/u's need to be matched to your guitars wood in order to maximize its tone. A great p/u in the wrong guitar wood will sound like shit imo.

Took you long enough to figure it out.

In my guitars I use wooden matchboxes cut to size, and stuffed with parts from a '64 transistor radio. Nothing spells tone like Radio Shack parts.

Wouldn't be cool if in the desription of p/u's at manufactures websites they said sound best in X type of wood? It would make to search a little less costly, unless they guy making the reconmendation is a fucking moron

I got stock ESP rails in a Mirage deluxe, an old tone zone in a Kramer Pacer and a Bill Lawrence L500 in a custom SG.
The L500 is cool because the SG has a 'twangy' top end and the L500 lets you actually use the tone control on the guitar without it going muddy.
I don't know exactly what the ESP is but this is the most balanced guitar I've ever played ie:
uniform volume and tone on all strings. It has that 'it plays itself' feeling.

I have A few guitars that i use a lot. I really love my DiMarzios on my ebmm. I really believe they have the best sound. I also have a frankenstrat with a single seymore duncun screamin deamon which i'm not to happy with. it doesn't have the same gain if you ask me. One of my favorite picups is the bill lawrence i have in my Dean MLk. It kicks ass. The only problem i have with it is the fact that it is "too" sensitive or something.. It picks up the niebors farting across the street. I have a custum custum that is going in my 5150 project but i haven't heard it yet. Later

Whatever you do, make every effort to try out prospective pickups before you buy, preferrably on a similar axe through a similar rig.

While everyone's throwing out recommendations though, I seriously can't recommend checking out a Duncan Pearly Gates Plus enough. I have an ash-bodied American Fat Strat Texas Special that comes stock with one in the bridge, and in addition to loving the shit out of it myself, the other guys in my band actually like the sound of that guitar better than my USA Jackson Soloist or even our other guitarist's brand new Les Paul when played through the same rig. Not sure how it would sound in the neck, but I'm very likely going to find out soon as I'm seriously contemplating dropping one into the neck position on my Soloist.

The closest description I can think of for the Pearly Gates is a slightly hotter PAF with better midrange characteristics. I can actually tap it on my Strat, too, and it sounds excellent in single-coil mode, as well.
