Does anyone know what marshall amp model Curt Mitchell uses on that "vh guitar method" video? Or an amp you could buy to get that awesome sound, (something affordable).

I believe it is a 1969 Marshall 100watt Plexi head that was modified with an extra gain knob added. He used this instead of a variac. Now I'm not positive on this!

I don't know how you can get this tone inexpensively. It will cost a little penny. The right amp and guitar will do the trick. Remember the sound you hear on the video is a shure 57 mic'd marshall ran through a mixing column with reverb and other goodies.
