Dude, I can take some pictures of mine and post them here for you. Mine's definitely a reissue (Dunlop) so at least you can see whether it looks like that or not...

Are you saying that the reissue is the best, or the worst in your opinion ?

Thanks man, but I've already seen most of those links and shit.

Mondo, maybe you could tell me what the back of your unit says in the bottom right corner, and what the inside of the plate says. Also the reissue should have a recessed AC Jack.

Thanks dude, and if anyone else can help it's much appreciated...

I've put the reminder into my phone, so I'll have a look and take pictures of it for you when I get home tonight (and I'll respond when I get back to work tomorrow...).

I'm no MXR guru by any means, so this is what I've gathered.

From what I understand there are three incarnations of the unit:

-The Script logo which is like the holy grail.

-The Block Logo, also MXR, which has the ac jack protruding differing from the reissue which is countersunk.

-The reissue which I hear is a piece.

Well I bought a Phase 90 today, it's a block logo, with the ac jack protruding and not countersunk. You have to screw the back plate off for the battery, and it says "MXR" in the lower right corner. When you take the plate off it's got foam on the inside of the plate, and inside of the unit. The plate says "DAC" or some shit in real small letters at the bottom.

Oh yeah, it's also got the rubber boot for foot/toe control, which I think the reissue doesn't come with, but I could be wrong.

So can any MXR aficianados out there tell me if I do have an original MXR or a piece of dunlop...thanks dudes

I've only heard the one I have, but I'm pretty sure that they will all get the job done. I'm surprised you yourself said that Tribb, since you are a tone snob, and I do mean that in a good way as I'm sure you're aware.

But I'd rather have something MXR than a reissue, know what I mean. Do you know anyone who might know more about the different versions of the units?

Thanks for the backhanded compliment TheMightyCopenHalenII.
I just meant that after using all 3 of them there wasn't enough difference to warrant spending loads of cash over one or the other. They all do get the job done, and your rig plays a big part of the sound anyway.
I eventually wound up using a phaser that was much cheaper and sounded much better to me than the mxr's.
I don't use phasers at all anymore for the material I'm doing now.

I agree with Tribb...to me I can't hear a whole hell of a lot of difference. If I were going to buy one I'd just go get a reissue and be done with it.

    Now the flanger....well that's a different story.

Here's a link to some pictures of my MXR Phase 90 reissue.

</font>I'm not going to post all the pictures into this post because it will slow it down no end (as they are a bit large, up close, and personal).

I bought this one when I was out in Japan (really cheap for some reason).

I hope that it helps you out. I just snapped away, in no particular order, so I just hope it answers the queries you had...

Here's what it's got written on the box :

    </font>
    • Top: MMI 08 J 434</font>
    • Side: This Jim Dunlop USA product is exclusively distributed in Japan by Moridaira Musical Instruments</font>
    • Side: M-101 phase 90 MXR</font>
    • Side: MXR M-101 phase 90</font>
    • Side: Jim Dunlop USA. Dunlop Manufacturing, Inc. Box 846, Benicia, CA 94510 U.S.A.
      </font>
Written on the bottom of the Pedal :
Notice: This unit is shipped without a battery. Remove the bottom cover to install a 9-volt alkaline battery if any AC adapter is not used. The adapter jack requires a 5.5/2.1 mm coax plug. 9VDC AC regulated adapters with greater than 20ma current will work.

Plug Polarity (+)-----(*-----(-) DC in 9 volts

Dunlop replacement part # ECB 03-Regulated

Hey Mondo, thanks man, but those pictures are big as hell dude, and I couldn't really tell what anything was...but from what you've told me the bottom of your unit says, I'd say its suffice to say that I don't have a reissue but an MXR Block...

Guess this case is closed for now...thanks mondo

That's me dude. Up close and personal. Only thing I didn't tell you was what was on the inside of the back cover. If I remember, I'll post that here as well.

Pictures were just so large in order for you to see them close up, but I didn't really try to get them crystal clear or anything...

I have an original MXR Phase 90 (Block Letter) and what I don't like about it is it doesn't have an LED light letting me know when it's on or off.

Because I play it set at slightly less than 9 o'clock, It's not always easy to tell if it's on. I then have to reach down in between songs and check (set it at 12 o’clock and strum once).

For this reason, I've considered buying a re-issue.

Has anyone also experience this and have you been able to do anything to remedy the situation?

Hey MOJO, the block logo I have does have an LED and an AC jack.

I've compared the boards between the block logo, and the Dunlop reissue. The board is pretty much dead on resembles the late 70's block logo, and the board doesn't resemble the reissue at all.

From what I've gathered, I've got the last one that MXR shelled out prior to going Dunlop, but again, this is just info that I've gathered. So I'm pretty sure, and thought I read somewhere, that there are two versions of the Block logo by MXR before going Dunlop. Corrections are appreciated.

The difference between it and the reissue is:

    1. The board
    2. The AC jack protrudes and is not recessed like the reissue.

That's pretty much all I've got now for info man. If you want one of these I'd try Guitar Center or see if someone can install an led for you.
