    Hey guys,

For those of you that are into the Roth era VH guitar tone, you gotta check out these clips. They're demo's of a new amp made by Mojave (www.mojaveampworks.com) that nails old VH tone out of the box. All you need is the right pick-ups in your guitar, some decent fingers/playing ability, and you're there.

These clips are from a guy I know that bought the amp:

the guys at Mohave used a Hotplate to make those clips, did the guy you know make the clips at full volume or with a hotplate ?? I know for a fact now that an amp has to be cranked to get that tone hence I need a hot plate cause the guy 3 blocks down called the cops yes block not doors.
I know Tribb you told me so

I like the clips from the Mojave site. I really dig that tone, in fact, sh*t like this always makes me appreciate how original & inventive Ed used to be. I like the late 70's vibe, and that's what these clips remind me of.

mb, your friends tone is much nicer than the mojave ones... theirs are a little to harsh for my ears.

awsome sounding amp tho. as was mentioned earlier, its obvious ed has an amazing ear - getting the amp to scream without the high end squal that you get often in the process.

    thx for the clips.

*hmmm* i wonder how a standard wolfie would sound through those.

killer tone on the clips, however, performance-wise they sounded like what Wolfie might be capable trying to learn some of daddy's licks

No not really. But they are worth every single cent. You might call up doug, he might be able to work out something like a lawaway or something similar if you want one bad. You could see if there are any used roccafortes too. Doug also does amp mods to marshalls, sovteks, traynors, sound city, etc and they all sound killer...

    rols,

I believe Vic at Mojave didn't use a Hotplate, and I believe the guy I know did use one but set at 12db I think.

    tribb,

I think he was using one of his old Kramers, and I think it had one of the SD EVH pick-ups in it.

Yeah, Doug Roccaforte makes some sweet amps. I know Doug and highly recommend his stuff too. For VH tones, I prefer the Peacemaker (especially for VHII type crunch). I like Doug's HG100 amp for other tones. I'd love to have both actually. I'm more of a vintage amp lover than a really high gain person, but high gain is cool if it's done right. Yeah, these amps are expensive, but that's life. They aren't cheap to build.

I think Doug makes an 18w amp that's cheaper, and I know Mojave makes an amp called the Coyote wich is 15w. Check out the Coyote clips on the Mojave site if you like the Peacemaker. It's a tone monster as well. But the Coyote head is only around $1500, so that's a lot cheaper. I'll be buying a Coyote after Christmas hopefully.

    .
In my conversations with them (Mojave), they said they were using a hotplate on all those clips, but then again they are hotplate dealers so maybe they were trying to sell on of those also ? who knows.
I do like the sound of your buds clips the base tone is definatly there, he needs to come down off the reverb a little and a little compression may help too but it's definate on backing off the reverb.

</font>[/QUOTE]I like the sound of MBvegas friend's guitar better than the mojave clips.
I just started using the SD EVH p/u in another guitar I picked up, so I'm glad to hear that cause I did like the sound of that guitar.
The amp does sound like he had some kind of compression going on there, and since a hotplate at -12 won't give you that kind of compression I have to assume he was using some kind of compressor. I didn't get much reverb when listening so the balance was nice.
My computer's hooked up to my stereo so that might be why.
Either way, I thought the sound he achieved was very good.
