Hey Guys,
I'm replacing the "Black" Floyd Rose on my franky project with a "chrome" one. The question I have is, should I leave the Trem studs in the body from the original Floyd? The chrome one seems to fit fine on those studs. Or, should I take the Studs out and drill bigger holes to fit the new studs. The studs that are in there now are the kind that screw right into the body. The only reason why I ask is that the Black Floyd wasn't mounted flat on the body. (I could pull up on the trem.) If I could, I would like the floyd to be flush mounted on the body. Thats where the black studs seem to be failing. They're too high and I can't screw them in any further. Now, is this where Eddie used a quarter to stop the floyd from pulling up. Should i just leave the black studs in and use a Quarter? Or should I just Replace the Whole Damn thing? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My thought is to leave what you have in place rather than jacking with a new set of posts if they aren't really needed. How much does the bridge float in the first place? If it's not much, go find a quarter. You can also try tapping (gently!) the posts to lower them, but I would tyake out the screws, and tap the casing so you don't damage the screws to adjust the height...

Fuck the dumb shit man, just put the correct studs in there dude.

I would definitely not fuck with "tapping" the posts either.

Those studs, they wouldn't happen to be from a cheap knockoff floyd like a Jackson or some shit are they?

If they aren't off an original Floyd, and you've got an original Floyd now, just have your everything matched dude.

Well,
I would Like to lower the studs by "tapping" them if I could, but the studs are Shaller studs that are srewed right into the body. They are not the kind of studs where the screw itself is in a casing. That's part of the reason why I was thinking about getting rid of them. Thanks for the advice guys I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do.

Put the new ones in.
The old ones will have a bit of wear so may as well start with a clean slate.
If you want to sell the black one let me know!
I'm trying to find a replacement for my Kramer.

You got it easy then. Take them out and install the new ones. If you don't have access to a drill press, you can buy a jig at Home Depot or other hardware store that your hand-held drill fits.

Thanks guys I'm going to put the new ones in!

Say... if you spend more than $400 and buy a real Jackson, you get an original, top-shelf Floyd, ya know.

</font>
Right.

I'd say more than six or seven. I was talking about a Jackson licensed Floyd, not an original Floyd, which are not "top shelf."

Yeah, that's pretty much going to be the case with just about any guitar in that price range. Mine came with an original Floyd, but then again, mine also was in the $1400 price range. There really aren't very many axes under the $1000 mark that aren't going to be cutting serious corners, unfortunately, especially in the hardware/electronics department.

I highly recommend the USA Soloists, though, there simply is no sweeter playing axe right out of the box, IMHO.
