I'm getting ready to build a frankie guitar but what is the best brand of paint to use? I want it to look like the original strat, well as close as I can make it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

no fret,

On the guitars I've done I used acrylic laquer. You can get it custom mixed at auto paint stores. I selected my colors from a catalog at the store. I believe my colors were used on various Chevrolet car models. I can get the actual numbers for you if you'd like. To do one guitar with this paint you won't need too much. I was able to do 2 guitars with 1/2 pint of each color. You'll also want to buy quite a bit of lacquer thinner, and you will need a spray gun and a compressor. Of course, if you don't have some of this stuff, like el_jalepeno said, Krylon will work.

if your not doing a lot of them Kyrlon from the can is the way to go, remember you want to make a guitar that looks home made but play and sounds kickass for the B&W glossy white and glossy black
for the overcoat red use Banner red and *no* small lines when you do the B&W scheme first that was pinstriping tape on that guitar, he peeled that off before he painted red over it.
or are you just wanting to do the B&W version of it ??

Thanks guys! I'm actually going for the old red franky strat look. I just ordered a maple neck with the wolfgang contour back from Warmoth cost me $225.00. They told me it would take 3 weeks to get it that seems like a long time, I hope its worth the wait. Anyway I guess I can get some krylon spray paint and get the body already.

Thanks again!

btw if the body is raw you'll want to seal it first with deft sanding sealer also in a spray can.
