All righty, give me your opinion...

We're playing a show on Wednesday, we haven't played out in like 3 months, so I probably haven't changed my strings in that long. I am a chronic string breaker, but haven't broken one in a few months, so I'm thinking I should just leave well enough alone and not change them before Wednesday and play on the old ones. Opinions?

Change em. Play it enough so they're stretched out. If a string is going to bust, it will be during this time.

What kind of pick are you using? Anything outside of a quarter shouldn't break a string. If your forever popping strings, chances are, one of your saddles has a burr on it, or you nut has a sharp edge. A file works beautifully for this.

Are you popping the same string? If so, I'm 96.5% sure your problem will be solved by looking into the above. If it's random popping, change the brand of strings that you use. They're not suppossed to break all of the time, and I find it hard to imagine that you beat your strings soooo hard that your snapping steel! ( but if you are, don't change the strings until they break! lol)

I use Fender Medium picks, used to use heavy picks, but that was years ago. I don't even think I'm that heavy of a picker, but guess I am.

I always break either a D, G, or a B, usually a G though. Usually they do break around the saddle, so I think the problem is definitely down there, either a burr on the saddle, or I am tightening the locks too tight, but I know I don't do that. I will change them tonight for the heck of it.

I would change strings. It would suck if you broke a string during a show.

You haven't changed your strings in three months? And they still hold their intonation?
You must never have sweaty hands.

    Ahh, just change 'em.

Throw them in the freezer overnight and them take them out to thaw. That will take care of most of the string stretching headache.

Better safe than sorry when it comes to strings. I've been burned doing the same thing, so unless you got a backup with good strings, better go ahead and do the deed.

Steven - Actually no, I don't sweat that much at all.

I changed them last night, stretched 'em, working them in. Gonna change my EBMM tonight, so I'll have a backup guitar, even though I retired it from live stuff earlier this year.

Thanks guys, this show is a pain and last minute, the only reason we agreed to do it is because the club owner promised us a Saturday night headlining slot if we do him a favor and fill in tomorrow.
