Hey all, do you people have any opinions on any of the battery powered or non battery powered headphone amps available ? I have a old Tom Sholz Rockman and although it sounded ehhh ok I find myself needing a new one or something equivilent to it or better if possible.

If I ever have to play with headphones(which I hate) I use a Johnson J-Station, and a set of Sony headphones. The J-Station was about $150 and the Sony's were $20, but it sounds worlds better than any dedicated "headphone amp".

Does the J-Station have an input jack where you can go in from your stereo systems headphone out, to "Jam along" with CD's?

Nope. I thought it was weird that it didn't since Johnson is owned by Digitech, and they put that jam along option on just about all their multi pedals. I guess it was meant to be more of a recording tool than a practcing tool.

Just this afternoon I was fooling around with my old Zoom 505 and you can get some really good tones out of that baby. Granted not everything it produces is great but some are good and you can also get effects unlike the Rockman which just has the basic 3 preset sounds. I just plug a set of headphones in the output jack and it sounds great - a lot nicer than it sounds through an amp.
