I borrowed this pic from the 2 guys who hate eachother thread.
Is that a maple/rosewood neck on Frankie in this pic or just a camera exposure problem? I don't think I've ever seen Frankie with anything but an all maple neck.

Might be an exposure problem, look at the pickup. It's white and I don't remember Frankie ever having anything but a black PAF in there. Maybe it had a Duncan in there at the end, but never a white one.

I think I've seen a few pics with a white humbucker, but I agree that its exposure, because if it was rosewood or ebony, you'd be able to see the white fretmarker dots. There was however a rosewood danelectro looking neck on the frankie in the pictures for the Starfleet project w/ Eddie and Brian May.

Ed had a number of those guitars as backups, and they all looked very much alike.
That pickup definately looks cream on both bobbins. I think the neck is just underexposure, or the film was high in contrast but the pickup is white or cream.

Notice that it is the first version of the Floyd as well...the one with no fine tuners! What a pain in the arse that must have been!

BTW...I have seen another pick of Ed playing the Frankie with a rosewood neck, but that way many years ago and I could never even guess as to where I saw it.

If I remember correctly (Tribb, you are definitely the expert here), I seem to remember Ed saying that in the early days he only had the one Frankie on tour and he would carry an assortment of necks with him because refretting on the road was a biatch. He would just slap other necks on and refret them at another time.

Around 1980 during the WACF tour there was a white humbucker in the Frankenstein for a short period of time... I've seen a few pictures with that white pickup but as far as the neck goes, I'm pretty sure that's maple and the lack of light/slower shutter speed etc. are responsible for making it look brown.

I believe the Y & B Charvel had a DiMarzio Super Distortion pickup in it, so I guess that's what the white pickup in the Franky was.

Here is a shot with a rosewood board - pretty rare, and certainly not the same neck as in the posted picture. I'd say it's probably the lighting.

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

Uh-oh, i've been reported to the internet police... anyhow, for those of you who have the Brian May Starfleet Project album, I think it's either the back cover or on the sleeve.

Since I can't see this particular pic, is it the one where the neck looks like a Music Man headstock? If it is, then I have several pics of that, and it is definitely a rosewood fingerboard.

I believe what you are looking at is a Fender neck on the Frankie. If memory serves me correctly, Ed had a Fender neck on Frank for a short period. Hell, he experimented so much with different necks and bodies, it could be anything. Anyway, I think that before he put the Kramer neck on Frankie, he had a Fender neck.
