My friend has an Epiphone Les Paul and when I play it the strings feel "looser" than on my ibanez or kramer. The strings also feel closer together and the neck narrower than on either of my strat style guitars. My Ibanez and Kramer are interchangable to me and both feel the same as far as the neck goes. My question is does a EBMM or a Wolf play more like a strat or more like a paul? My big mitts cannot play that friggin Les Paul even though I see why people like them they feel really easy to play if you have avg. size hands.

The EBMM has a smallish rounded back, with a 10" radius, with medium frets and feels like an old strat neck, but doesn't fight you as much as a strat does. That could be cause there's more give to the floyd bridge. The strings are also closer together than on a regular R2 floyd nut. It's a very fast playing neck, with low action.
I haven't played a Les Paul for quite a long time, so I couldn't tell you how close they feel to a wolf, but a wolf has a larger, and much flatter neck than an EVH. It's not as round at the back either, and has much larger frets, but still plays really fast when set up right.
Big hands would probably be a lot more comfortable on a wolf, or axis style neck, which is considerably bigger than an EVH neck.

I'm guessing you asked this because you're possibly considering a future purchase of a Wolf or EBMM?

I would say that they are a totally different animal from a Paul, in large part due to different tensions. Your floyd equipped and Strat or Strat style guitars are going to have a "tighter" feel than a paul directly because of that.

That's probably why you've heard "everyone sounds the same playing a Paul, when your an individual on a Strat." Well, it may hold a handful of water out of the ocean, but I find that it's got it's share of bullshit too.

I don't think Zakk Wylde and Jimmy Page sound the same, so that's my take.

The Les Paul has a 24.75 inch scale neck as opposed to the others which have a 25.5 inch scale neck. This will be one of the reasons why a Les Paul/LP copy will have a slightly looser feel to the strings. tribb, correct me if I'm wrong.

I wasnt puttin anyone down that plays a Paul hell i would get one tomorrow if i could deal with that string spacing. I am thinking about moving up guitar wise to more of a quality instrument. I guess i need to get out there and play them my self. I saw one of those "hard rock" strats the other day used (a real USA Fender) I might go back and check that out. It was just like a regular strat except with a Floyd and a humbucker in the bridge position.

scale length does make a difference. so does string gauge.
