I haven't been on here for awhile cause my computer had to go in the shop. I had a lot of free MP3's on that sucker, and my hard drive was hangin by a thread, and my PC was basically useless...

One of the tech's at Gateway told me that MP3's can ruin a hard drive, and that they couldn't back them up on a CDR anyway cause of copyright. He says they have been a leading cause of hard drive failure. I know this isn't exactly related to us guitarists, but those that right an record, and maybe throw their MP3's out there to MP3.com or somethin, I was wondering if any of ya have heard anything like that, or experienced anything due to that...

Also Tribb, checking on how your digging your SCSI card for your Zoom man...

    Later guys...

Dude, that tech is feeding you a line a shit greater then I've heard in a long time. MP3's are just compressed .wav files, the same shit that give your welcome music everytime you fire up windows.
Don't let these so called "techs" mess with you. Half of them doen't know there ass from their elbow.
The only way an MP3 can fuck up your computer is if it has a virus embedded in it. That's what anti-virus software is for. If you don't have AVS then you deserve what you get, other then that, tell the tech to fuck off.

Homeunit hit it right on the head.
That's like saying your car's steering wheel is the no. 1 cause of breakdown. Just stupid.
Find a new tech., or get this one a book on computers to read in his spare time when he has a clue.
As far as the interface card, it works great. Allows me to move file from the zoom to the computer, and back to the zoom again if need be.
It also allows me to download any new updates for my recorder via the usb port directly to the zoom.

They're right MP3's cannot harm your hard drive as long as they don't have virus's. The only way they could do anything is if down load enough to fill you're hard drive to max capacity, then you'll have a problem, but you can max out your hard drive with anything, not just MP3s.

Man I knew it was horseshit...

I told the guy, "Well MP3's don't take up much space do they?" and he was like "Yea, but it's not the storage, it's the nature of the file" or some shit...

I used Napster and got a lot of cool and rare shit, as well as shit I didn't want a whole CD of and it's now gone, so oh well...

I guess I'll go back to MP3'n if it comes about at a reasonable price...

Hey Tribb, that SCSI is via USB right? I'm not entirely sure...

So how much did you spend in US bucks on the card, and how much of a hassle was installation, hookup...and more importantly how well does the sound transfer to CD-R, meaning is there any noticeable degradation?

    Take it easy guys

TheMightyCopenHalenII, the card was about 100. US + tax.
It's as easy as popping the card into the side of the unit. Yes, it's a usb port card, which connects to any usb port on your computer.
You get a software package to download the files, and the software also contains things like a program to return the zoom to factory settings, file manager, etc. The thing I like is that with the card, when the company comes up with new patches, or improvements they can be loaded into the MRS via the usb port.
It's much faster than a sound card, and there's no degradation at all that I can notice.
The transfer is always done as a wav. file.
You need 100 megs for the sofware, and then more for whatever music files you're downloading.
