everyone knows the solo to beat it, right? does anyone know how he does it? i've never seen TABS for it, and i don't remember hearing anything about it on bootlegs. if anyone knows how its done, especially the first few bars where it sounds like he taps the high e string, and the part where he does the whammy dives. it blows my mind.

All I can say is Michael Jackson got one of the best free solos ever. Like they say in those commercials, "Priceless" (cause there was no price at all!!!

I had Tab for it in a real old copy of Guitar World, like from 1990 or something... it was the awards issue and also included Still of the Night by Wh*t*sn*k* and a Stevie Ray Vaughan tune. I'd fax it to ya or something but it's at my parents house...

The Beat it solo is actually spliced together from what I remember.

It's at the point that Ed starts tapping for the last time at the end of the solo. I'm not 100% on this, but pretty damned sure!

    Ed did 3 takes.

Jump is also a spiced solo.

that's the cool thing about Ed! He talks about that shit and is not ashamed of it. I mean he does em all live anyway!

From what I remember, Ed said that it only took 15 minutes to do that solo. I can remember he said they wanted him to originally solo over the E chord going..."duh dump dump duh dump dump." He then suggested that they let him solo over the verse chord progression. I never heard about the solo being "spliced" like Jump's was. I actually think that Edward has gotten away from that practice.

In case you guys don't know you can download the "Beat It" solo without the backing instruments on Napster. I'm not sure if it's really Ed playing (sound like him) but it really sounds cool to hear one of Ed's solo as it was recorded without any bass, drums, keyboard etc. Check it out if you haven't already!
