Have any of you tried this? I bought this one for $159 and it's not responding too well to my rig. I emailed the maker and he said it responds better to better rigs. Do you have this?

I haven't tried it, but for the manufacturer to say something like that is just plain stupid.
He should have recommended some settings or helped you out another way by recommending you try it in such and such an amp.
The pedal should have been advertised as "Only to be used in certain amps"
If a pedal is designed specifically for "brown sound" then you should be able to tweak in in any amp to get close.
Sounds like a weasel just trying to get your cash.

Just out of curiousity, what problems are you having with the pedal?

well well well isn't he the snobby one, first I say bullshit, it claims to be the Brown sound then that's what it should be I don't care if you use a pignose.
Where did you buy it ? was it new and if so you should return it if you don't like it, hell after a comment like that I'd return if I did like it.

That's just bad customer relations right there. If your making a distortion pedal you better have tried it through several types of amps before you put it on the market. Most people buy these "gimmicky" distortion pedals because they don't like the distortion on their amps. Which means if you had a better rig you wouldn't even be looking at his distortion pedal.

I'd return it.

Well first off there is almost no sustain at all, zero. So going for solos is out of the question. Also pinch harmonics don't work often.

People hear the words "brown sound" and all logic seems to fly out the window.
The impression I get is that it's an overdrive pedal that just puts your preamp over the top.
Are you using a solid state amp by any chance cause it will have virtually no effect on SS circuitry except to make it sound harsh.
Solid state stuff only emulates tube circuitry, which works differently to produce sound, and apparently this pedal was made for tube amps.
If it's too late to get your money back you might want to couple it with a compressor pedal of some type to smooth it out, increase sustain, and allow you to play your amp at higher volumes while still keeping the overall sound quiet.
Then again, if you have a tube amp the pedal could be a total peice of shit, in which case you might want to start some shit to get your money back.
For what you paid there's a lot of other pedals that will do the job.

I guess they are just using a name to sell it. I guess there is another type of brown sound

This is from the bottom of the page.

It’s not terribly tight in the bottom or punchy on top; it’s really just right and it cleans up fairly well with the guitar’s volume. It is, however, not the Van Halen I sound—perhaps one of the most evolved forms of the tone. This Brown Sound harkens back about ten years when acid rock and heavy metal started falling from the heavens.

Damn,Eddies so good they are even steeling phrases he's coined over the years.I've only heard itin reference to his sound and that's it.You can bet he'll probably be on the phone with the Neff boys trying to copywrite it soon and we'll all have to pay a quarter everytime we say it.

Better idea. Don't believe anyone who says you can get the Brown Sound through a fucking pedal. Ridiculous.
The name's Munson. Roy Munson.
