They have to make me a new body because of finish cracking on my old one. It will take about a month!!! What the hell am I supposed to do until I get it back? All I have is a Strat and an Ibanez. It's like being relegated to driving a Ford Escort while your Mercedes is in the shop!!!

I had one with a warped neck. As I've said before, the axis is a poor imitation of the real evh.

I played one at a Guitar Center last summer and was thorougly unimpressed compared to my EVH-EBMM. The workmanship was certainly a major step down from when Ed endorsed it.

Hey tribb, Brett-
In your opinion, how does the Axis compare to the Wolfgang?

The Axis compared to the Wolfgang?

Oh the Wolfie blows it away in quality and sound. The Wolfie has a beefier tone to me than the EBMM or the Axis, so it has become my main axe. I also don't like where they moved the knobs to on the Axis and to me the Floyd doesn't play or react as nice as the Wolfie or my EBMM. Wolfie all the way! The neck doesn't feel the same either on the Axis as the EBMM, and the Wolfie neck to me is more comfortable than either of them. But I am also much more used to my Wolfie now anyway.

I like the Wolf better than the Axis as well, because the wolf neck feels better, and the wolf p/u's respond better and are beefier Than the present axis pickups. The axis doesn't use the same p/u as the earlier EVH model(I know EBMM says it is, bullshit).
Brett uses an early first run black Wolfgang, and his is solid basswood, so will sound beefier and warmer than a maple top guitar. Also because the p/u's in the wolf are better IMO than the axis p/u's it's a better sounding instrument, again IMO.
I do like the sound of the original EBMM better though, and the neck as well.

So would you agree that the Wolf is the evolution of the EBMM EVH as Eddie has said?
I read an interview where he said the carved top, the D-tuna and something else that I can't remember make it a completely different guitar. They seem pretty similar to me (basswood body, maple top, birdseye maple neck, floyd, etc.).

No, not at all. They're different animals altogether, and don't really even feel or sound alike. No evolution involved.
There were things on the wolf that Ed wasn't really happy with, but heartly peavey insisted on, like the tone knob.
Personally, I feel that the EBMM EVH is the best of the three guitars, hands down, but you asked about the wolf and the axis.
Keep in mind, the EBMM Axis and EVH are "NOT" the same guitar, just because they resemble each other from the front.
Ed has said lots of things through the years, depending on his train of thought at the time.
I'm sure he wishes he could retract a few of the things he's said.

Man, you guys are really depressing me! I actually like my Axis, but granted, I have never played a EVH or a Wolfgang. Now I feel like I've been ripped off! I guess it is all subjective. I don't know what I am missing.

I had a chance to have a Gibson Les Paul Classic for the same price as my Axis, should I have bought it instead? You guys make me wonder.

As long as you like it great. I've had a couple of guitars that just never felt right in my hand and I got rid of them...If your Axis feels great..then that's what's most important.

Now......you guys had mentioned the "First Run" of Wolfgangs. Is it true that the earlier Wolfies were superior then the later ones and how can I tell if mine was an early one or later one.........thanks.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Jimmy, I didn't even know I had a first-run Wolfie until I gave the serial number to tribb and he told me. I bought it used in '99 and it's the only Wolf I've actually ever played, although I did pick up a Black Special for a second, but never ran it through an amp.

I will say I was blown away when I ran the Wolf through my set up, the sound was huge, way bigger than my EBMM, which I thought was huge. I still think the tone on the EBMM is a bit sweeter, but the Wolfie tone is plenty mushy for me, and loud!!

evhesq - Dude if you are happy with the Axis, that's totally cool, it's all about personal preference. But P1 wanted a comparison, so I gave it to him, but I didn't mean to imply what you may have is total crap and you should be depressed, not at all.

I have an '83 Cherry Red Les Paul Standard, and my EBMM and Wolfie get played 10X more, so there's your answer to the question. I am not a big LP guy, so I'd probably be OK with the Axis.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'm a novice guitar player at best (drums are my thing), but I like talking shop with guitarists.

I try guitars everytime I go to the Guitar Store, but my Wolfie Standard feels so much like home that I couldn't replace it. I may get another axe but I think that I would purposely take a departure from the EVH format, to make sure that the other guitar isn't too close to the Wolf.
I was actually considering an Ibanez. We shall see.

My first time in the spotlight was from a helicopter.
